Daniel Cormier believes there is a perfect story in place for Gable Steveson vs. Josh Hokit.

Steveson has made it to the UFC roster with high expectations. The Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling has gotten off to a hot start in the world of combat sports. He has a record of 3-0 with all three victories coming by way of first-round knockout or TKO. He also scored a 15-second knockout win over Billy Swanson in the Dirty Boxing promotion.

During the UFC 327 broadcast, it was announced that Steveson has inked a deal with UFC. During a media scrum hyping up “The Ultimate Fighter” season 34, Cormier told media members that Steveson vs. Hokit is a future fight that could shake things up at heavyweight (h/t MMAJunkie).

“I’m interested to see how quickly he rises,” Cormier said. “I think when you have a skillset like that it happens fast. That’s what we’re seeing right now with Josh Hokit. Josh Hokit fought two fights and then he beat the No. 4 guy in the world in Curtis Blaydes. Now he’s one of the top five heavyweights in the world. I imagine Gable Steveson’s path will be something similar to that. Fight a couple guys, get somebody better.

“We’ve been dying for the America wrestler in the heavier weight classes since a lot of us retired recently. Now we have them. Hokit’s an All-American. Steveson’s a champion. What a storyline that would be. Could you imagine Gable Steveson, the All-American world champion, then Josh Hokit, the bad guy, fighting for a UFC title? That would be f*cking cinema. It would be cinema.”

Hokit’s stock has been soaring thanks to both his promotional antics and his fighting style. While Hokit ruffled some feathers by pretending to be a Mexican gangster in the buildup to UFC 327, his barnburner with Curtis Blaydes ultimately gained him a slew of new fans. Hokit now has a UFC Freedom 250 fight scheduled against Derrick Lewis.

Do you think Gable Steveson will live up to the high expectations? If so, do you think a fight with Josh Hokit will be as big as Daniel Cormier thinks it could be? Drop a comment below.
