Conor McGregor’s manager has revealed that he thinks ‘The Notorious’ could be fighting for UFC gold next.

The former dual-weight champion has been out of the cage since his injury loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. The loss gave Conor McGregor three losses in his last four fights inside the cage. During that stretch, he also lost to Floyd Mayweather inside of the boxing ring in 2017.

Despite McGregor’s current losing streak, he’s never seemed far from the title picture. UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira notably called for a fight against ‘The Notorious’ last year.

It seems that his manager, Tim Simpson also believes he’s close to a title shot. He recently went on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani to discuss his client’s future inside of the octagon.

“Let’s see what happens in the title fight. Would you be surprised? The thing with Conor [McGregor] is he’s always had options. He’ll have options when he’s ready and regardless of everything else that’s going on in the division, he sells. He can fight anybody, regardless of what could be said is ‘right’ for the division. In the end business rules. He could step into that title fight if he wanted to.” – Said Tim Simpson on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani (h/t Sportskeeda).

As of now, it remains to be seen if Conor McGregor will face in his return to the cage. The UFC star is currently expecting to return to the cage in the summer.

In the meantime, the UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is set to face Justin Gaethje at UFC 274 in May. Depending on how that bout goes, fans could see the winner face off against the Irish megastar.

What do you think about Conor McGregor’s manager stating that ‘The Notorious’ could fight for the title in his return?
