Conor McGregor takes shot at Rafael dos Anjos after UFC Rochester

By Tom Taylor - May 19, 2019

Last night, the UFC returned to our screens with the UFC Rochester card. In the main event of this card, former UFC lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos defeated Kevin Lee by submission— and as is so often the case, long-absent star Conor McGregor had something to say about it on Twitter.

Rafael dos Anjos, Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor was briefly scheduled to fight Rafael dos Anjos in 2016. At the time, the Irishman was the UFC featherweight champion, and dos Anjos still held the lightweight title. Unfortunately, dos Anjos was forced out of their planned contest with a foot injury at the last minute. McGregor then accepted a short-notice fight with Nate Diaz — and lost — kickstarting his wild rivalry with Stockton based fighter.

Evidently, McGregor still harbors a bit of disdain for dos Anjos for his part in derailing their planned fight.

Interacting with veteran MMA reporter Josh Gross on Twitter shortly after UFC Rochester, Conor McGregor took a shot at Rafael dos Anjos:

“RDA is a hell of a fighter,” Gross wrote. “He simply outperformed Kevin Lee. Can’t help but think back to that lost chance against Conor McGregor and what could have been.”

“I guess we’ll never know, cos he bottled it, with a broken toe,” McGregor responded.

When a fan then attempted to correct McGregor, clarifying that dos Anjos was dealing more than just a broke toe when he withdrew from the fight, the Irishman took it a step further.

“Lol my bad, I didn’t know it was actually just a bruise,” he wrote.

With his victory over Kevin Lee, Rafael dos Anjos rebounds from back-to-back losses to top welterweights Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.

Conor McGregor, meanwhile, has not fought since October of 2018, when he was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov in a bid to capture the UFC lightweight title.
