Terence Crawford disputes Conor McGregor’s $200 million MMA fight offer

Boxing superstar Terence Crawford says Conor McGregor’s claims about an alleged two-fight offer were fabricated.

Conor McGregor will make his highly anticipated return to the UFC Octagon later this month against Max Holloway at UFC 329. It’ll mark McGregor’s first MMA appearance since injuring his leg against Dustin Poirier in their UFC 264 trilogy.

Ahead of UFC 329, McGregor made headlines after claiming he was briefly in talks for a two-fight showdown with boxing legend Terence Crawford, with one fight in MMA and one in boxing. The fight(s) never materialized, and Crawford retired following a win over Canelo Alvarez last year.

McGregor says Crawford turned down upwards of $200 million to fight him in negotiations brokered by Turki Alalshikh and Riyadh Season. But according to Crawford, the offer was never made to him, and he says McGregor is greatly exaggerating claims about their rumored showdown.

Terence Crawford clears the air on rumored $200 million Conor McGregor fight(s)

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Crawford responded to McGregor’s eye-opening comments about a recent mega-million fight offer.

“That was a lie, it was ‘cap’. There was no $200 million offer. Now, they asked me if I would do it, and I told them I didn’t want to get kicked by Conor. I was on FaceTime, and I told him that,” Crawford said of McGregor.

“But they didn’t say anything about $200 million for boxing, and then MMA, that was never the case. If it were said to me, I could say that there was an offer. But if nothing is per view to me, I can’t say anything about numbers…I would’ve done it, why wouldn’t I? I don’t need to do it. It would’ve been a good deal – but [in the past], I would’ve said alright, let’s do it.

“Conor’s not the best wrestler, and I’m not saying I’m the best wrestler either,” Crawford continued. “But I know that standing up, it’s only going to take one good shot and I’ll put him to sleep. He’s going to try to kick me, and with a takedown, we’re just going to do what we do.”

Crawford and McGregor recently traded social media barbs after Ilia Topuria’s loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250. After Topuria’s defeat and recent knockout prediction about a fight with Crawford, Crawford didn’t let the dethroned lightweight champion off the hook after suffering his first career defeat.
