Conor McGregor and Jon Jones shouldn’t be on UFC White House card, argues Chael Sonnen

To many, Conor McGregor and Jon Jones being showcased on the UFC White House card would be a slam dunk, but Chael Sonnen doesn’t think it’s a good long-term move.
UFC appears to be drawing closer to announcing the White House card. Dana White revealed to reporters that the card has been finalized, but he isn’t ready to share details. McGregor quickly deleted a social media post claiming he has accepted a bout, which sparked speculation.
Sonnen uploaded a new video on his YouTube channel, and he isn’t gung-ho on the idea of McGregor or Jones competing on the UFC White House show (via MMAJunkie).
“You’re going to have more eyeballs on this than we’ve ever had in the history of the UFC,” Sonnen said. “So, if you’re on the second floor of the UFC, it is not just to deliver to your fanbase, it’s to expose these new fans and to make them fans, and do as close as you can to get them to hardcore as you can.
“And what you can’t do is to expose them to something that you can’t show them again. I don’t know if you’re going to get Conor McGregor to make another walk. I don’t know. Gun-to-head type scenario – No. You’re never going to see Conor again. But even if you can get Conor to do another walk, you’re not going to get him to make another two.”
Sonnen clearly believes the stars of today and tomorrow should be given priority for a rare event such as the UFC White House show. Time will tell if the matchmakers felt the same way. A slew of fighters have thrown their names in the hat, but there’s a very limited number of spots UFC officials needed to be filled.
