Alexander Volkanovski impressed by Movsar Evloev’s UFC London win: “I guess he’s next”

Alexander Volkanovski was paying attention to the UFC London card, and he has praise for Movsar Evloev.
In the main event of Saturday’s card inside The O2 Arena, Evloev fought Lerone Murphy with potential featherweight title implications at stake. Despite having a point deducted for accidental low blows, Evloev kept his composure and did enough to earn a majority decision win.
There were times in the fight where Evloev abandoned the grappling and had success on the feet. During the UFC London post-show on Paramount+, reigning featherweight champion Volkanovski admitted he was impressed by the Russian contender (h/t MMAJunkie).
“It was an interesting one,” Volkanovski said. “I don’t think we all expected Movsar to just want to stand with Lerone. Whether that was something that he felt he had to do to just so he can guarantee himself a title shot, I’m not too sure. But you could see he was a lot stronger when he wanted to take it down, and then was able to out-do him on the feet. So for me, it’s quite impressive, to be honest. Fair play to him. He’s 20-0 now, and I guess he’s next.”
UFC CEO Dana White didn’t commit to naming Evloev the No. 1 contender for the 145-pound gold during the post-fight press conference. He did say that Evloev is in a good spot following the victory.
Rising featherweight contender Jean Silva was in attendance for UFC London, and he handed Hunter Campbell a mock fight contract to face Volkanovski in a viral video. “Lord” has been attempting to cut the line for a title opportunity, and has even been trying to start some beef with Volkanovski over his Fighting Nerds teammate Mauricio Ruffy.
