Alexander Volkanovski doubts Jean Silva is his next challenger following UFC 325 win

Alexander Volkanovski doesn’t believe Jean Silva will cut the line to challenge for his UFC Featherweight Championship.
Volkanovski emerged victorious over Diego Lopes for the second time in their UFC 325 rematch this past Saturday. It was another stellar performance from “The Great,” who can now look forward to a fresh challenger. While Volkanovski expects someone new in his next outing, he doesn’t believe Silva is the answer.
Silva recently posted a video where he revealed his plan to train with reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria to prepare for Volkanovski. The 145-pound titleholder responded to Silva in a YouTube video, and he isn’t sold on “Lord” being next in line for a championship opportunity (via MMAJunkie).
“You’ve got Silva, obviously just probably trying to get his name out there,” Volkanovski said. “He’s actually not a bad guy. I met him in Miami, and we got along pretty good. I thought he was a pretty nice guy, but now he’s saying a couple of things. I don’t know if he really is upset with the Ruffy thing. I don’t know if that’s an actual thing or people taking it way out of context.
“But now he’s saying some stuff and thinking that he really deserves next. If the UFC will push that for me, everyone knows me. I’ll fight anyone, but I don’t think that’s very likely to happen. I don’t think he’d be in a position to be able to fight for the title, especially when you’ve got Lerone Murphy and Movsar fighting very, very soon.”
Top contenders Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy are set to collide in the UFC London main event on March 21. While many believe it should be a No. 1 contender bout, that certainly isn’t a guarantee given how UFC operates these days.
