Alex Pereira explains where things went wrong for Jiri Prochazka in UFC 327 loss to Carlos Ulberg

Alex Pereira has given his assessment of Jiri Prochazka’s stunning loss to Carlos Ulberg.
Prochazka seemed to have victory in hand during his vacant light heavyweight title fight against Ulberg at UFC 327. Early on, Ulberg injured his knee, which severely hindered his movement. Prochazka appeared hesitant when Ulberg showed difficulty with his movement.
When Prochazka decided to move forward, he was dropped with a hook. Ulberg then finished the fight with punches on the ground to score the shocking knockout win. Many believe Prochazka snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
In an interview with UFC Brasil, Pereira shared what he thinks ultimately cost Prochazka the fight (via MMAFighting).
“What happened there, everyone saw that Ulberg got injured,” Pereira said. “We don’t know if it was from the kicks or if he was already hurt, but it doesn’t matter. Those are the risks of being in there. He knew that, the responsibility is entirely on the athlete, and that’s part of the game.
“But during the fight, I was watching and I said, ‘Man, Jiri is going in hard, he looks different,’ and all that,” he continued. That moment when he started calling him out, that samurai warrior kind of thing, I think that hurt him a bit, you know?”
As far as what he would’ve done in Prochazka’s situation, “Poatan” knows that it’s all strictly business inside the Octagon.
“I’ll speak for myself,” Pereira said. “If it were me in there, it’s a fight, you know? Both guys are trained, one wants to hurt the other. Unfortunately, Jiri had some actions that came at a very high cost. I think he learned a lot from it. That’s what I have to say.”
Prochazka has said he hopes to get a rematch, but there’s been no word on the severity of Ulberg’s injury at this time. Ulberg revealed to Ariel Helwani that plans to get his knee checked out soon so doctors can determine the best course of action.
Do you think Jiri Prochazka’s hesitancy is what cost him against Carlos Ulberg, or did he simply get caught? Sound off in the comments below.
