Al Iaquinta calls out Dustin Poirier after ‘4 IPAs’

By Tom Taylor - February 7, 2019

Last night, surging UFC lightweight contender Al Iaquinta was apparently imbibing a bit, enjoying a few delicious Indian Pale Ales. After his fourth drink, he took to Twitter and called out his fellow contender Dustin Poirier.

“[Dustin Poirier] just sign the contract youbarent going to hold out. It’s me or no one” Al Iaquinta wrote on Twitter.

The typo in Iaquinta’s Tweet prompted one fan to ask him he’d been drinking — at which point he admitted he’d had 4 IPAs.

“4 IPA wohoo” Al Iaquinta said when asked if he’d been drinking.

Al Iaquinta is currently riding the momentum of an impressive decision defeat of Kevin Lee. Prior to this huge win, he came up short to reigning UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in a fight he accepted on just 24 hours’ notice.

Dustin Poirier, meanwhile, probably would have earned a UFC lightweight title shot by now, where it not for the efforts of one Tony Ferguson, who has done just a little bit more.

With Tony Ferguson expected to get the next crack at the champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, and with Conor McGregor linked to a fight with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Al Iaquinta might just be correct. He might be Poirier’s only option if Poirier means to fight any time soon.

That being said, the champ Nurmagomedov recently divulged that, because he isn’t planning on fighting until November, he believes the UFC will book an interim title fight between Poirier and Ferguson, which would leave Iaquinta without a dance partner.

How do you think things will shake out for Al Iaquinta and the rest of the lightweight division?
