What’s next for the UFC 218 main card winners?

Francis Ngannou Stipe Miocic

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway made his first successful title defense at last night’s UFC 218 event in Detroit.

“Blessed” scored a third-round TKO victory over former division kingpin Jose Aldo in last night’s main event.

In the co-main event of the evening surging heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou scored a brutal first-round knockout victory over former title challenger Alistair Overeem.

Also featured on the UFC 218 main card were women’s strawweight Tecia Torres and men’s flyweight Henry Cejudo who both made strong cases for title shots in their respective divisions with big wins.

Former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez also picked up a huge win on the UFC 218 main card, defeating Justin Gaethje via third-round knockout.

Who the UFC 218 main card winners should fight next:

Tecia Torres: Should fight the winner of UFC 219’s Carla Esparza vs. Cynthia Calvillo scrap. With Rose Namajunas expected to rematch Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the women’s strawweight title and Karolina Kowalkiewicz taking on top contender Jessica Andrade, the Calvillo vs. Esparza winner makes the most sense for surging contender Tecia Torres.

Eddie Alvarez: Should fight Dustin Poirier. The time is perfect to book a rematch between lightweight standouts Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier. “The Diamond” and “The Underground King” first met at UFC 211 with the fight ending in a no-contest after Alvarez landed an illegal knee. Prior to the disappointing stoppage, the Alvarez vs. Poirier scrap was an all out war. Poirier is coming off a win over former champion Anthony Pettis at UFC Norfolk and has made it clear that he wants to rematch Eddie Alvarez next.

Henry Cejudo: Should fight Ray Borg. With UFC President Dana White already proclaiming that Demetrious Johnson will be taking on bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw in his next bout the most sensible next opponent for Henry Cejudo is recent title challenger Ray Borg.

Francis Ngannou: Should fight Stipe Miocic for the UFC heavyweight title. “The Predator” became the obvious number one contender for Stipe Miocic’s heavyweight crown at last night’s UFC 218 event in Detroit, by crushing Alistair Overeem with a brutal first-round knockout.

Max Holloway: Should fight Conor McGregor next. Whether the fight takes place at featherweight or lightweight, I love the idea of a rematch between “Blessed” and “Mystic Mac”. McGregor has been outspoken about the fact that he does not want to fight Tony Ferguson due to “El Cucuy’s” lack of drawing power. With that said, a rematch between McGregor and Holloway could be easily hyped by the promotion and the two rivals have already exchanged shots on social media since the conclusion of UFC 218.
