bjpenndotcom - February 28, 2017
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has made several bold claims leading up to his UFC 209 welterweight title fight with Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson this Saturday. The most controversial being his claim that his lack of popularity is in-part due to his race, which he believes plays a role in why UFC flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson doesn’t receive the push he deserves from the UFC. That rant didn’t sit too well with UFC President Dana White, who called Woodley a “drama queen”:

This anticipated pay-per-view card will be headlined by a welterweight title rematch between champion Tyron Woodley and challenger Stephen Thompson, who fought to a frequently debated draw back in November. The co-main event, meanwhile, will see undefeated Dagestani star Khabib Nurmagomedov take on the streaking Tony Ferguson in an interim lightweight title fight, which will keep the division moving while undisputed champ Conor McGregor takes some time off to father his first child. Without a crystal ball, it’s impossible to say how either of these two anticipated title fights will unfold. Both battles seem very capable of going either way. While there’s no way of knowing the outcome of these fights till fight night, however, the betting odds do give us a clear picture of the favorites.

bjpenndotcom - February 3, 2017

While the idea of a potential Georges St-Pierre superfight had fight fans talking, at first it wasn’t for the best reasons. Many fans perceived this as Woodley ducking welterweight #1 contender Stephen Thompson, and Woodley ultimately signed to fight Thompson at UFC 205 in New York to close out the year after negotiations between St-Pierre and the UFC failed, resulting in both Woodley and UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping missing out on a potential Georges St-Pierre superfight.
