BREAKING | Tyron Woodley Says He’s Fighting Conor McGregor Next

By Tom Taylor - November 13, 2016

Last night, in the co-main event of the historic UFC 205, welterweight champion Tyron Woodley made the first defense of his title against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson – but only narrowly. The pair’s five-round battle was so competitive that the end result was a majority draw.

Given the nature of Woodley’s war with Thompson, all signs immediately pointed to a rematch between the two. UFC President Dana White then confirmed that this would probably be the next move at the UFC 205 post-fight press conference.

Apparently, however, Woodley has other plans. In a Sunday afternoon Tweet, the champ took to Twitter to thank Thompson for the memorable battle, and assure him that he’d love to have a rematch – after he takes out a certain “lucky charm.” The champ is talking, of course, about featherweight king Conor McGregor, who won the lightweight crown from Eddie Alvarez in UFC 205’s main event.

Though McGregor is best suited for the featherweight and lightweight divisions, he spent the first half of 2015 in Woodley’s welterweight division, where he engaged in two memorable battles with Nate Diaz. In the buildup to UFC 205, he and Woodley had several tense run-ins, which immediately generated interest in a potential fight between them.

Do you think Woodley will actually fight McGregor next? Sound off, PENN Nation!
