Last weekend, the UFC returned to the combat sports mecca of Las Vegas, Nevada with UFC 209. Regrettably, it did so without the card’s originally planned co-main event, an interim lightweight title fight between streaking contender Tony Ferguson and undefeated Dagestani star Khabib Nurmagomedov. This fight was scrapped on the eve of battle when Nurmagomedov was hospitalized in the midst of his cut down to 155 pounds. Initially, Ferguson seemed quite understanding of Nurmagomedov’s withdrawal from the card. Since then, however, his tone has changed significantly.

Russian news outlets first reported that “The Eagle” was taken to the hospital three hours before the official early UFC 209 weigh-ins. Woodley followed up and stated that the reason he and Thompson were the main event is because he is the undisputed UFC welterweight champion.

Ahead of the fight, both men have given rather harsh predictions for how they plan to finish the fight, with ‘The Eagle’ recently stating that he plans to break Ferguson’s arm. That of course didn’t sit too well with Ferguson, who was quick to fire back at Nurmagomedov, saying that a broken arm wouldn’t deter him from winning the interim lightweight belt.

The co-main event, meanwhile, will see undefeated Dagestani star Khabib Nurmagomedov take on the streaking Tony Ferguson in an interim lightweight title fight, which will keep the division moving while undisputed champ Conor McGregor takes some time off to father his first child. Without a crystal ball, it’s impossible to say how either of these two anticipated title fights will unfold. Both battles seem very capable of going either way. While there’s no way of knowing the outcome of these fights till fight night, however, the betting odds do give us a clear picture of the favorites.
