Tom Aspinall is going to bat for ‘misunderstood’ Paddy Pimblett amidst online hate.

Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett (21-3 MMA) last fought and defeated Tony Ferguson (25-10 MMA) by unanimous decision this past December at UFC 296.

The 29-year-old up and coming star has won 7 in a row, 5 under the UFC banner.

Often controversial, with his weight challenges, trash talk and some less than stellar performances, Pimblett has garnered mixed reviews from fans.

It was just last year that Pimblett shared with ‘Sky Sports’ how the online haters have personally had an effect on him:

“I’m trying to be a mental health advocate and tell people to speak out about things, then I’ve got people commenting on my posts telling me to kill myself. I don’t sign into my social media anymore, I have other people running it. I send them what to put up, I can’t be signing into it anymore. I’ve had to take a step back from social media.”

During a recent appearance on the ‘Breaking Beard’ podcast Tom Aspinall shared his thoughts on his fellow Brit saying (h/t MMANews):

“He’s a good guy man, he’s good. I think he’s pretty misunderstood, you know? I think he was getting a lot of hate at one point, and I think he’s like – from my experience with him, I mean, I don’t know him, he’s not like my best mate or anything, but I’ve known him quite a long time at this point. He’s a good guy, yeah, I can’t say anything bad about him.”

Tom Aspinall, who is the current interim UFC heavyweight champion, while admitting the two fighters aren’t ‘best mates’, is seemingly protective of his fellow Englishman.

The 30-year-old Aspinall last fought and defeated Sergei Pavlovich (18-2 MMA) by KO in November of last year at UFC 295.

Both Aspinall and Pimblett are waiting on their next fight in the Octagon, although no challengers or dates have been firmed up by the UFC to date.
