TJ Dillashaw ‘depressed’ by two-time rival Cody Garbrandt’s latest KO loss at UFC 329

Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw expressed a somber tone when reacting to his former rival Cody Garbrandt’s latest loss.
Cody Garbrandt’s UFC struggles continued last Saturday at the hands of Adrian Yanez at UFC 329. Just minutes into their fight, Yanez finished Garbrandt with a flurry of punches to earn arguably the biggest victory of his young career.
For Garbrandt, it marked his third loss over his last four fights after recent defeats to Raoni Barcelos and former UFC champ Deiveson Figueiredo. As the official decision was read by Bruce Buffer, Garbrandt took off his gloves, leaving many to believe that he was calling it a career.
While Garbrandt’s fighting future remains uncertain, one of Garbrandt’s biggest rivals was discouraged by what he saw transpire in the Octagon: former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw.
TJ Dillashaw upset with Cody Garbrandt’s latest setback at UFC 329
In a recent appearance on the JAXXON Podcast, Dillashaw weighed in on Garbrandt’s latest setback and his fighting future.
“For me, it’s just depressing because I know how good he could be,” Dillashaw said of Garbrandt.
“He’s super fast. He hits like a truck. Even before the fight started, they talked about him working on his defense – he does not need to work on his defense when someone is throwing at him. What he needs to work on is his head motion while he’s throwing.
“He throws great combos, but his head stays super tall and always in the same exact position. It never gets off the line,” Dillashaw continued. “Like if he’s throwing a right hook, his head’s here (straight); left, his head’s here, rather than dipping his head out of the way while he’s throwing. He’s getting caught in the counter. He’s getting caught when he’s throwing.” (h/t MMA Junkie)
Dillashaw and Garbrandt were longtime training partners at Team Alpha Male under Urijah Faber before Dillashaw left the gym shrouded in controversy. He went on to defeat Garbrandt by TKO in back-to-back title fights.
