Mid-way through the first round of a compelling UFC 234 light heavyweight contest, Australia’s Jim Crute rocked his foe Sam Alvey, leaving the American on spaghetti legs. With Alvey hurt, Crute quickly swarmed to force a stoppage, and eventually got one. Yet many onlookers felt that stoppage came a little too early — that includes UFC President Dana White. Speaking at the UFC 234 post-fight press conference, Dana White criticized referee Marc Goddard for his handiwork in this Jim Crute vs. Sam Alvey matchup.

On Saturday night, on the main card of UFC Sao Paulo, Sam Alvey stepped into the Octagon with Brazilian MMA legend Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, who was returning from a lengthy hiatus from competition. Unfortunately, Alvey’s opportunity to take out an MMA legend didn’t go quite the way he planned. Instead, the American was put down by a volley of punches in the bout’s second round. That being said, Sam Alvey is still all smiles post-fight — no surprise there.

A light heavyweight bout between Sam Alvey and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira took place on tonight’s UFC Fight Night 137 main card from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Sam Alvey enters tonight’s fight having won three of his past four octagon appearances. His latest victory came over Gian Villante via split-decision at June’s UFC Fight Night event in Utica.

A fight between Sam Alvey and Gian Villante kicked off tonight’s UFC Fight Night 131 main card from Utica, New York. Round one begins and Villante presses the action early. He lands a kick to the body. Alvey circles but Gian fires off another kick that connects. Alvey is moving along the fence. He throws a low kick which lands. Gian lands one of his own. Villante with a high kick which is blocked. Sam circles off of the fence. Villante continues to walk forward. He throws a jab. Alvey attempts to counter but misses. Gian with a decent right hand up the middle. He continues to press the pace on Alvey. “Smiling Sam” throws a big left that misses the mark. Villante with a leg kick and then one to the body. He appears to be very loose. A high kick partially connects for Gian. Alvey finally begins to come forward now. He can’t continue to be walked down by Villante. Gian fires off a low kick that connects to the groin of Alvey and we have a break in the action. Alvey recovers and we restart. Alvey just misses with a left hand. He throws another that connects and drops Gian. Villante pops right back up but Sam is all over him with punches. Villante survives as the horn sounds to end round one.

UFC middleweight standout “Smiling” Sam Alvey picked up this biggest win of his mixed martial arts career at last night’s UFC Fight Night 114 event in Mexico City, defeating former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans via split-decision. Following his victory over “Suga”, Alvey proceeded to callout another former UFC champion in Vitor Belfort.

Last night, on the main card of the UFC’s latest trip Mexico City, Mexico, middling middleweight contender Sam Alvey picked up one of the biggest wins of his career, out-duelling former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans to a slow, but commendable split decision win. It did not take long for Alvey, who trains under the tutelage of MMA legend Dan Henderson, to call out the fighter he hopes to take on next: Vitor Belfort. Alvey made this callout in a conversation with MMAFighting.com, explaining that he hopes to defeat as many of Henderson’s former foils as possible on a “2017 vengeance tour.”
