In 2016, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey returned to the UFC, after over a year away from the Octagon following her UFC 193 KO loss to Holly Holm, to fight Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight title she once held. While Rousey hoped to return to the win column and reclaim the bantamweight title from Nunes at UFC 207, it took just 46 seconds for Nunes to TKO Rousey and retain the bantamweight title.

On December 30th, 2016, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey returned to the Octagon for a very highly anticipated return over a year following her devastating loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193, which saw her lose the women’s bantamweight title. When Rousey returned to the Octagon she did so against reigning champion, Amanda Nunes, who was looking to build momentum on her impressive 4-fight win streak that had seen her go unbeaten for nearly two years. When the pair stepped into the Octagon in Las Vegas, it took just 48 seconds for Nunes to hand Rousey her second straight professional loss.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been out of the public eye since her end-of-year loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, where she was handed her second straight professional loss following her 2015 KO loss to Holly Holm. Following Rousey’s recent loss to Nunes, UFC President Dana White admitted that Rousey was likely done fighting, and more likely than not would be moving on to pursue other endeavors outside of MMA.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has managed to stay out of the public eye for the most part following her UFC 207 loss to Amanda Nunes. In that fight, Rousey looked to make her triumphant return to the Octagon following the first defeat of her professional career at the hands of Holly Holm at UFC 193. Unfortunately for Rousey, her return was an unsuccessful one, which saw her lose to Nunes via TKO in just 43 seconds. Following the fight, there was much speculation as to whether or not Rousey would return to the Octagon, however no official word from Rousey herself as to whether she was planning to fight again. Rousey’s period of silence was followed by a statement from UFC President Dana White, who revealed that he was confident Rousey was likely done fighting.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate recently retired in the midst of a 2-fight skid that saw her drop a submission loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 200, where she lost the bantamweight title, followed by a UFC 205 unanimous decision loss to Raquel Pennington. Tate explained that after 11 years fighting professionally, she no longer had it, and would be stepping away from the sport. While many believed that the move was an impulsive one, Tate has stuck to her retirement.

With this win, Budd extended her win-streak to an extremely impressive eight-straight. Budd’s last loss occurred all the way back in 2011, when she became the fourth victim of Ronda Rousey‘s legendary professional MMA career. In more recent years, of course, Rousey’s career has endured a bit of a downward spiral, as she was first knocked senseless by a Holly Holm head-kick, then took more than a year off, only to return to the cage to be bludgeoned by reigning UFC bantamweight queen Amanda Nunes.

Now on a two-fighting losing streak after initially going on a 12-0 run that saw her annihilate all of her competition, the world is waiting to hear what will be the next step for the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion.
