Robert Whittaker reveals he is pretty sure his next fight will be at light heavyweight

Robert Whittaker is pretty confident that he’ll be making his way up to the light heavyweight division from middleweight.

For a while now, Robert Whittaker’s mixed martial arts future has been up in the air. After years of being one of the most consistent middleweights out there, ‘The Reaper’ has suffered back to back defeats that have really knocked him down in the pecking order. Of course, this is Bobby Knuckles we’re talking about here, and he’s more resilient than most.

Alas, as we look ahead to the future, Whittaker seems to be getting ready for a bit of a change. He’s talked in the past about his desire to test the waters at light heavyweight, although some are concerned that he may be a bit too undersized for such a move.

In a recent interview, Whittaker had the following to say on the matter.

Whittaker discusses divisional future

“I’m at a point where I could be convinced out of it,” Whittaker said. “That’s what a lot of the break was about, as well. ‘What do I do? Do I want to keep doing this?’ I just feel so weak at the end of the camp, at the ‘85 camp. And fight week, I’m eating nothing to get down to a point where I can cut the water. It takes a lot of the fun out of it. …

“[I’m] 90 percent there. …

“There’s no soul searching. It’s just trying to make it a bit more enjoyable. I’m getting older. The weight cuts suck even more. Also, with the fight-style changes, I think that the changes will be better from a heavier position. There’s a lot of reasons why I want to.”
