Max Holloway wants another ‘masterpiece’ in possible Justin Gaethje rematch: “I’d go out there and do the same damn thing”

Max Holloway thinks he has a good idea of how he’d approach a second encounter with Justin Gaethje.
Holloway has some time to think about what’s next following the unforeseen conclusion to UFC 329 this past Saturday. While “Blessed” envisioned a victory, he did not anticipate that his rematch with Conor McGregor would end before it truly got started. McGregor suffered a leg injury early on, and the fight was ultimately called to a halt.
While the situation isn’t ideal, Holloway is focused on what options could be available to him. There is history between “Blessed” and the reigning UFC lightweight titleholder Justin Gaethje. Holloway delivered one of the most scintillating highlight reel finishes when he knocked Gaethje out cold at UFC 300 back in 2024.
Speaking to Mike Bohn during the UFC 329 post-fight presser, Holloway said his goal would be to finish Gaethje in spectacular fashion yet again if he gets a rematch.
“I’d go out there and do the same damn thing,” Holloway vowed. “I just think I go out there and put on a masterpiece. That’s what I want to do. I know he’s gonna come in there and try to make the fight ugly. I want to go in there and make the fight nice and come out clean, but every time someone fights him, they look like they just got out of a car crash.”
The Hawaiian legend is also aware of a comment Gaethje made about their first encounter.
“I know he said he mentally wasn’t there in the first one, so I would love to run that back too,” Holloway said.
It’s hard for many to picture Holloway being Gaethje’s first title challenger given that Charles Oliveira defeated him back in March. Still, one can’t rule out possible circumstances that could lead to a title rematch. For now, Holloway will be waiting on what the UFC brass has in store for him.
