UFC releases statement on Jon Jones' status of UFC 197 fight with Daniel Cormier

Fans were concerned about the UFC 197 main event bout featuring former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and current champion Daniel Cormier after Jones was arrested on Tuesday. A judge ruled that a ticket Jones received for allegedly drag racing violated the terms of his probation. Jones turned himself into police on Tuesday and was held in custody until his court hearing on Thursday

Last night on UFC Tonight, it was revealed that Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz would have their welterweight rematch in the main event of UFC 200. In addition, it was announced that Frankie Edgar would get the chance to avenge his UFC 156 loss to Jose Aldo as the pair fight for the interim featherweight championship. While the MMA community was going wild with excitement, Frankie Edgar took to Instagram with a short statement regarding the event.

Earlier this week it was announced that Invicta FC champion Cris Cyborg would be making her long awaited UFC debut against Leslie Smith in Curitiba Brazil at UFC 198 on May 14th. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones appeared before judge Michael Martinez on Thursday morning, this in regards to his probation violation case which stemmed from being handed five traffic citations earlier this week. The pound-for-pound mixed martial arts kingpin had been in custody at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center since Tuesday morning.

News broke Wednesday afternoon on UFC Tonight that Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz II had been officially booked for UFC 200. In addition, it was announced that Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar would be competing for the interim featherweight championship. While leaked footage earlier this month showed Nate Diaz revealing that he wanted the rematch with McGregor to take place at lightweight so that McGregor wouldn’t have ‘an excuse’ this time around, the bout has been officially set as a welterweight rematch.

News broke Wednesday afternoon that the UFC had released veteran heavyweight Jared Rosholt following his ‘UFC Fight Night: Hendricks vs. Thompson’ loss to Roy Nelson back in February. Rosholt had been with the UFC since 2013 where he defeated Walt Harris via unanimous decision in the finale of the ‘TUF: Rousey vs. Tate’ finale. Rosholt compiled a record of 6-2 during his time with the UFC, with his loss to Nelson snapping a three fight win streak.
