Dana White says Conor McGregor's tweet is not true, the fight is still off

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor took to Twitter last night to announce that he was “back on” July’s UFC 200 fight card in Las Vegas. Well according to UFC president Dana White, Conor’s tweet simply is not true and the Irish superstar will not be fighting at UFC 200 on July 9. His words to TMZ:

Jon Jones became the UFC’s interim light heavyweight champion last night at UFC 197 in Las Vegas, this after he defeated “OSP” via unanimous decision in the evenings main event. Jones was supposed to rematch current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at the event, however “DC” was forced to pull out of the bout with an injury.

On Saturday night, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was able to secure the UFC interim light heavyweight title and his shot for the undisputed title against Daniel Cormier next. Jones fought a hard five-round fight against a game Ovince Saint Preux in the main event of UFC 197.

Ovince Saint Preux had a tall order in front of him at UFC 197 with just three weeks notice. “OSP” fought one of the greatest fighters to ever compete in mixed martial arts on Saturday night and came up short, but proved that he can fight with the best of them. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was able to secure the UFC interim light heavyweight title and shot at the undisputed title against Daniel Cormier with the win over Saint Preux.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor shocked the MMA world once again tonight as he announced that he is BACK on the UFC 200 card. McGregor was pulled from the card after refusing to complete his media obligations for the event. UFC President Dana White stated at the UFC 200 press conference on Friday that it wouldn’t be fair to McGregor to skip out on his obligations, when other fighters traveled from around the world to attend the press conference.

The MMA world was left in complete shock earlier this week when current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor tweeted that he had decided to “retire young” and was done with fighting. Shortly after that, the UFC announced that they had pulled “Mystic Mac” from his scheduled UFC 200 rematch with Nate Diaz which was expected to headline UFC 200 this July in Las Vegas.

In the main event of UFC 197, Jon Jones made a successful return to the Octagon and defeated Ovince Saint Preux to claim the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. With Jones’ interim light heavyweight title win, Jones will now face Daniel Cormier for the undisputed light heavyweight championship. After it was announced earlier this week that Conor McGregor would no longer be fighting Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 200, Jones vs. DC II was mentioned as a possible main event for UFC 200 if Jones defeated OSP at UFC 197 and came out of the fight unscathed.

While the fight was a rather lackluster one, Jones was awarded the unanimous decision win, and claimed the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. After the fight, Ovince Saint Preux revealed that he had hurt his arm at some point in the fight, leading many to wonder how badly injured the arm was. During a post-event interview, UFC President Dana White revealed that OSP broke his arm in either the 4th or 5th round.
