Daniel Cormier was not impressed with Jon Jones performance at UFC 197

Current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was not impressed by Jon Jones unanimous decision victory over short-notice replacement Ovince Saint Preux in the main event of UFC 197. “DC” spoke about Jones performance during the FOX post fight show, stating the following:

The MMA world was left in complete shock earlier this week when current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor tweeted that he had decided to “retire young” and was done with fighting. Shortly after that, the UFC announced that they had pulled “Mystic Mac” from his scheduled UFC 200 rematch with Nate Diaz which was expected to headline UFC 200 this July in Las Vegas.

In the main event Jon Jones picked up a unanimous decision win over Ovince Saint Preux to claim the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. With tonight’s win, Jones will now fight Daniel Cormier for the undisputed UFC light heavyweight championship in a highly anticipated rematch. The rematch could very well take place at UFC 200 depending on how quick Cormier’s leg heals.

In the main event of UFC 197, Jon Jones made a successful return to the Octagon and defeated Ovince Saint Preux to claim the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. With Jones’ interim light heavyweight title win, Jones will now face Daniel Cormier for the undisputed light heavyweight championship. After it was announced earlier this week that Conor McGregor would no longer be fighting Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 200, Jones vs. DC II was mentioned as a possible main event for UFC 200 if Jones defeated OSP at UFC 197 and came out of the fight unscathed.

While Jones was extremely critical of his performance, he is now the interim UFC light heavyweight champion, and will face Daniel Cormier for the undisputed light heavyweight championship.

In the main event of UFC 197, Jon Jones and Ovince Saint Preux fought to a decision. While the fight was a rather lackluster one, Jones was awarded the unanimous decision win, and claimed the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. After the fight, Ovince Saint Preux revealed that he had hurt his arm at some point in the fight, leading many to wonder how badly injured the arm was. During a post-event interview, UFC President Dana White revealed that OSP broke his arm in either the 4th or 5th round.

In the main event of UFC 197 Jon Jones made his return to the Octagon after over a year away from the Octagon. Jones and Ovince Saint Preux fought for the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. In the first round, the pair looked to find their distance during the feeling out process, with neither fighter landing major blows. Jones however did land a pair of kicks to the body of OSP which landed. With just 10 seconds left in the round Jones managed to get a trip from the clinch, however OSP immediately got back to his feet.

A flyweight title fight between UFC champion Demetrious Johnson (24-2-1 MMA) and challenger Henry Cejudo (10-1 MMA) served as the co-main event of tonight’s UFC 197 event in Las Vegas. Round one begins and Johnson lands a good shot to start. The fighters clinch and Cejudo lands a foot stomp. Nice hand by the champ on the break. They clinch up and Cejudo lands two knees and then a takedown. “Mighty Mouse” scrambles to his feet and gets back up. Good knees inside from the champion. Cejudo gets hit with a big elbow from Johnson. Demetrious stuns him with a knee and then an elbow. Big shots from “DJ”. It is all over.

A key lightweight bout between former champion Anthony Pettis (18-5 MMA) and dangerous striker Edson Barboza (15-4 MMA) took place on the UFC 197 main card in Las Vegas. Round one begins and Barboza lands a leg kick to start. Pettis is circling to start. Barboza with a jab to the body and then a kick in the same spot. Edson with a couple of left hands that miss. Barboza with a inside leg kick. Pettis with a nice leg kick. He lands a crisp right hand on Edson. A good left hook lands for Barboza and then another. Pettis looks a little stunned from the shots. An inside leg kick scores for Barboza. Edson with a good jab to the body of Pettis. A nice right hand lands for Barboza. Pettis misses with a high kick. Nice leg kick from Edson. Round one comes to an end.

A middleweight bout between Robert Whittaker (16-4 MMA) and Rafael Natal (21-7-1 MMA) took place on the UFC 197 main card in Las Vegas. Round one begins and the fighters exchange leg kicks. Whittaker with a nice left jab. Natal with a jab but he eats an uppercut for his troubles. Rafael with a nice front kick to the body. The fighters trade body kicks. Natal with a leg kick and then a nice right hand. Whittaker with a nice hard leg kick. Natal replies with one of his own. Big left hook scores for Robert. Natal shoots in but cannot secure a takedown. Nice leg kick from Whittaker. Natal fires back with a big leg kick of his own. Good jab and then a kick from Robert. Another leg kick lands for Whittaker and then another. Big left hand and then a right lands for Robert. Natal returns fire. Whittaker with another solid combo. Huge left from Whittaker. Round one comes to an end.

A featherweight tilt between Yair Rodriguez (7-1 MMA) and Andre Fili (15-4 MMA) kicked off the pay-per-view portion of tonight’s UFC 197 event in Las Vegas. Round one begins Rodriguez lands a solid leg kick. Good spinning back kick to the body from Yair. Nice quick combination from Fili. Andre with a good punch but Yair lands a big kick to the body and scores a takedown. Rodriguez working from full guard and lands two big elbows. Nice axe kick from the bottom by Fili. Yair is looking for a heel hook but he gives it up works some hammer fists fro, full guard. Rodriguez moves to half guard and lands some nice left hands. Fili attempts to sweep but Yair winds up in side control. Andre scrambles and gets back to his feet. Big leg kick from Yair drops Fili. Nice left hands from Fili drops Yair. Rodriguez bounces back up. Fili with a brief takedown and round one comes to an end.

A flyweight bout between Sergio Pettis (14-2 MMA) and Chris Kelades (9-3 MMA) served as the main attraction of tonight’s UFC 197 prelims in Las Vegas. Round one begins and Pettis lands a right jab to start. The flyweight fighters exchange left hands. Sergio with a good jab. Chris Kelades with a front kick that misses. Pettis with a nice left jab and then a leg kick. He lands another hard leg kick on Kelades. Pettis with another good left jab and then another. He lands hard leg kick on the Canadian. Kelades shoots in for a takedown attempt. Pettis stuffs it and gets pressed against the cage. Chris with a nice knee to the body. The fighters break. Pettis lands another good left jab. Kelades shoots in for a takedown but it is not there. Sergio lands a trip kick and winds up in top position on Chris. Pettis is working from full guard but decides to stand back up. Kelades charges forward and eats a jab for his effort. Round one comes to an end.
