Friday evening the UFC announced a fight that guarantees fireworks. On July 7th on UFC Fight Pass, Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson will fight Derrick ‘The Black Beast’ Lewis. The event will be headlined by Rafael dos Anjos vs. Eddie Alvarez, and will be an important one for both men as Lewis looks to climb from #13 on the UFC’s heavyweight rankings, and Nelson looks to climb from #10 on the heavyweight rankings.

At a recent meet & greet with top ranked UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov, 3,000+ eager fans trashed a Reebok store while trying to push their way to the front of the line. Things got so out of hand that Nurmagomedov was forced to leave the meet & greet because of the chaos that was occurring. While a brief video has emerged showing the situation, Nurmagomedov himself has now released a statement regarding the incident via Instagram.

While fighters such as Jon Jones have remained dominant, fighters such as Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva no longer hold UFC titles. In addition, a new era of dominant fighters have emerged, such as UFC flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson. In addition, the UFC now has two female champions! UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate is already looking past UFC 200 and her opponent Amanda Nunes. Tate wants to avenge her losses to former champion Ronda Rousey, and would love for it to take place at the UFC’s big event in New York City. “I think everything happens for a reason,” Tate said at the UFC 200 presser in New York (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “I told everybody I was going to beat Holly and I did, and I’m going to beat Amanda on the 9th, and I’m going to go on, and hopefully I’m going to see Ronda in Madison Square Garden. That’s going to be great.”

Former UFC middleweight champion and current ONE Championship vice president Rich Franklin recently spoke with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto on Conor McGregor being pulled from the paramount card after refusing to take part in some media obligations to promote the event.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is currently gearing up for his pivotal fight with Travis ‘Hapa’ Browne at UFC 200 on July 9th. The fight is a ‘must-win’ for Velasquez, who looks to fight Fabricio Werdum and once again capture his UFC heavyweight championship. Boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez met with Velasquez after the UFC 200 Press Conference, where he offered an invitation to train the former heavyweight champ.

Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is currently gearing up for his UFC 200 rematch with Jose Aldo for the interim UFC featherweight championship. Edgar, who lost the UFC lightweight championship to Benson Henderson back in 2012, lost his first fight against Aldo at UFC 156 in a competitive contest for the featherweight title. The winner of their UFC 200 rematch on July 9th will then fight Conor McGregor for the undisputed featherweight championship.

While Rafael dos Anjos is currently the UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov holds a win over dos Anjos, something ‘The Eagle’ hasn’t been quick to let RDA forget. Nurmagomedov had been sidelined for two years before his return to the Octagon earlier this month at UFC on FOX 19, where he defeated UFC newcomer Darrell Horcher via 2nd round TKO.

In the main event of UFC 197 Jon Jones and Ovince Saint Preux fought to a decision that saw Jones awarded the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. At some point during the second half of the fight, Saint Preux blocked a kick from Jones that broke his arm. While he was seen wincing in pain after the fight, Saint Preux fought as though he was not injured, earning him quite a bit of respect from fans.

MMA pioneer Don Frye is never one to shy away from speaking his mind. The former UFC tournament winner often finds himself at odds with the UFC brass for speaking out against the promotion. Recently, Frye gave an interview in which he weighed in on UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor’s standoff with the UFC. Given Jon Jones’ win over Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197, Frye was also asked how he thinks a rematch between Jones and Cormier will go.
