UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title in a rematch with Anthony “Rumble” Johnson this December at UFC 206 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The pair first met at UFC 187 in May of 2015, with “DC” emerging victorious by way of third-round submission (rear-naked choke).

Jon “Bones” Jones (22-1 MMA) is currently on the sidelines waiting to receive punishment from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), this for his failed pre-fight drug test from UFC 200 this past July. The pound-for-pound great has been rather silent on social media in recent weeks, but that all changed yesterday evening when Jones took to Twitter and put the entire light heavyweight division on notice.

Recently, news has surfaced that the new WME-IMG owners of the UFC have been cleaning house, and plan to fire between 60 and 80 UFC employees in a major shakeup. Several key UFC executives were let go, including Chief Global Brand Officer & Head of International Business Development in Vegas, Garry Cook, Chief Content Officer Marshall Zelaznik, UFC Executive VP & GM of UFC Asia Ken Berger, and UFC Executive VP & GM of Canada, Tom Wright to name just a few of the nearly 15% of the worldwide employees let go by the WME-IMG owners. In addition, approximately 80% of the UFC’s Canadian Office was let go.

On December 10th, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, and light heavyweight #1 contender Anthony Johnson will step into the Octagon in the main event of UFC 206 in Canada in a highly anticipated light heavyweight rematch for the UFC light heavyweight championship. The fight, which was announced earlier this month as the co-main event bout, was then shifted to the main event slot when negotiations between former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre & the UFC brass failed, ultimately leading St-Pierre to terminate his contract with the promotion, which he was reportedly able to do due to the fact that the promotion didn’t secure him a fight.

Earlier this year, the UFC was sold for a whopping $4 billion – quite an increase from the $2 million that Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta bought it for in the year 2000. The promotion was purchased by American talent agency WME-IMG. Since it purchased the UFC, WME-IMG has made several major moves. Some of these moves, such as its choice to sell small stakes of the promotion to celebrities like Ben Affleck, Conan O’Brien and The Weeknd, were quite exciting. Others, like its choice to enact a mass layoff of UFC staff, have been rather disheartening.

A superfight between WMMA superstar Cris Cyborg, and former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has always been just out of arms reach for MMA fans. Earlier this month, when UFC President Dana White announced that Rousey would be returning to the Octagon in December, over a year after suffering the first loss of her professional career at the hands of Holly Holm at UFC 193, White announced that in addition to returning for a championship fight with Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, Rousey was looking for a superfight with Cris Cyborg if she defeated Nunes at UFC 207.
Driver who killed Jordan Parsons posts bail

Earlier this year, tragic news surfaced that Bellator MMA prospect Jordan Parsons had been struck by a vehicle in Florida. While initial reports regarding the situation, and what happened, were a bit scarce, it was then revealed that Parsons was in the hospital, where he was forced to have his leg amputated as a result of the accident. Following the announcement that Parsons had to have his leg amputated, it was then revealed that the young prospect was undergoing heart surgery after it was revealed that his heart was operating at just approximately 1/5 of its capacity.
