On November 12, on the main card of UFC 205, former middleweight champion Chris Weidman will fight for the first time since he surrendered the title to Luke Rockhold last December. He’ll be returning to action against the dangerous Yoel Romero, and if he’s impressive in this return, he might just earn himself another crack at the middleweight throne. Unless the middleweight division experiences a tectonic shift in the next few months, that would mean a fight with England’s Michael Bisping, who won the title with a first round knockout of Rockhold in June. Despite Bisping’s status as the champion, and the fact that he recently defeated MMA legend Dan Henderson to retain that title, Weidman is extremely confident in his chances against the Brit. In fact, he wouldn’t favor the current champion over any of the UFC’s top-10 middleweights.

Contrary to UFC President Dana White’s recent claims that Ronda Rousey is “by far” a bigger star than Conor McGregor, the widespread perception seems to be that the Irishman is indeed the king of mixed martial arts, if not all of combat sports. McGregor has, after all, repeatedly demolished records in the areas of pay-per-view sales and fighter pay. He has also been tasked with headlining UFC 205, the biggest card in the organization’s history, which is a clear indication of his value.

As the UFC’s 200th pay-per-view card, UFC 200 was always supposed to be stacked to the rim with talent. Unfortunately, the landmark card was ceaselessly battered by injuries, PED-busts and more, leaving the UFC scrambling to keep the its lineup in tact until it finally occured on July 9 of this year. One of the organization’s key efforts to assure UFC 200 was up to snuff in spite of the many blows its was dealt was their signing of former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. Lesnar, who won the title from Randy Couture in 2008 and surrendered it to Cain Velasquez in 2010, has spent the last few years competing as a pro wrestler for WWE. Despite being under contract with this organization, he was allowed to compete in a “one-off” return to the Octagon in UFC 200’s co-main event, where he took on Brick fisted Kiwi Mark Hunt.

Coming off of a close but entertaining decision victory over longtime foe Dan Henderson at UFC 204, middleweight champion Michael Bisping is wasting no time in looking for his next fight. In fact, Bisping was originally in talks to welcome former welterweight champ Georges Saint Pierre at UFC 206 in Toronto, just two months removed from his first title defense against Hendo last month.

Several weeks ago, the MMA community was thrown into a frenzy when news surfaced on social media that UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor was knocked out in training in preparation for his UFC 205 scrap with lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. The report was quickly debunked as it was discovered that the initial source of the news was a fan who was giving out false information. Despite that, there had been no word from McGregor’s camp regarding the rumors. UFC light heavyweight kingpin Daniel Cormier is currently gearing up for what he hopes will be his second successful title defense when he steps into the Octagon in the main event of UFC 206 in Toronto on December 10th against heavy-handed light heavyweight Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson. This won’t be the first time the pair have collided in the Octagon. After pound for pound kingpin Jon Jones was involved in a hit-and-run car accident in April of 2015, the UFC pulled Jones from his scheduled title defense against Anthony Johnson before stripping Jones of the light heavyweight championship and having Daniel Cormier fight Johnson for the vacant light heavyweight championship.

UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is certainly one of the most underrated trash talkers in MMA. When Cruz was making his highly anticipated return to the Octagon in January against TJ Dillashaw, Cruz took his trash talk to an entirely new level when he began his verbal onslaught of the bantamweight champion. Ultimately, when the pair stepped into the Octagon, it was Cruz who emerged victorious as he reclaimed the bantamweight championship he never actually lost inside the Octagon.

Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is coming off a big win over Raphael Assuncao at UFC 200 back in July, which returned him to the win column after dropping a controversial split decision to Dominick Cruz back in January of 2016 to lose the bantamweight championship. Following Dillashaw’s win over Assuncao, there was talk of whether or not he would get the next title shot at bantamweight, and secure himself a rematch with Cruz, however ultimately, the UFC opted to give the title shot to streaking bantamweight prospect Cody Garbrandt, who is an undefeated Team Alpha Male prospect. Garbrandt’s MMA record currently sits at 10-0, which includes a 5-0 run inside the Octagon. Throughout the course of his stint with the UFC, Garbrandt has finished all but one opponent via KO/TKO. The scrap between Cruz and Garbrandt is currently slated to take place at UFC 207 on December 30th, the UFC’s New Years Eve card.
