On Friday morning, just a day before UFC 209, reports were buzzing that #1 UFC ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov was taken to the hospital. Russian news outlets first reported that “The Eagle” was taken to the hospital three hours before the official early UFC 209 weigh-ins. Many fans were obviously worried but still held hope that the UFC interim lightweight title fight between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson would not be scrapped from the card.

While it was announced earlier this year that GSP had signed a new multi-fight deal with the UFC, UFC President Dana White revealed this week that St-Pierre would be stepping into the Octagon against Michael Bisping in 2017 for Bisping’s middleweight title.

“Platinum” Mike Perry is poised for a return to the Octagon. The fan favorite welterweight will be taking on Jake Ellenberger at ‘UFC Fight Night: Nashville’, which goes down on April 22nd on Fox Sports 1 at the Bridgestone Arena according to the Los Angeles Daily News. This bout will be Perry’s fourth in the UFC’s Octagon. In his first Octagon appearance, which occurred in August of 2016, he scored a thudding, first-round TKO over dangerous South Korean talent Hyun Gyu Lim. In his second UFC bout, which occurred in October, he put Danny Roberts down in the third round of a thrilling, back-and-fourth scrap, sealing the deal with a knee and several followup punches. In his most recent bout, finally, Perry experienced his first pro loss, giving up a decision to the more experienced Alan Jouban on the main card of December’s UFC on Fox 22. With this loss, his overall record moved to 9-1.

It has now been nearly eight months since former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and heavyweight veteran Mark Hunt stepped into the Octagon together at UFC 200. In that fight, Lesnar was awarded a unanimous decision win after using his wrestling to take Hunt down repeatedly throughout the course of the three round scrap. Ultimately however, the fight was overturned to a no contest after it was revealed that Lesnar failed both a pre-fight drug test, as well as a fight night drug test.

Ahead of that fight, Lesnar was granted an exemption from the first three months of random USADA testing. With that being said, GSP has now signed a new multi-fight UFC contract, and will now fight UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping later in the year. Tony Ferguson looks to be taking a page out of Conor McGregor’s book and ruffling the feathers of UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley ahead of his UFC 209 interim lightweight title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov taking place this weekend. On a UFC 209 media conference call, Ferguson stated that the interim title fight between Nurmagomedov and himself should be the main event of UFC 209 instead of the UFC welterweight title fight rematch between Woodley and Stephen Thompson. Woodley followed up and stated that the reason he and Thompson were the main event is because he is the undisputed UFC welterweight champion.

This Saturday, in the co-main event of UFC 209, undefeated lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov will put his undefeated streak on the line when he fights streaking contender Tony Ferguson for the interim lightweight title. Ahead of the fight, both men have given rather harsh predictions for how they plan to finish the fight, with ‘The Eagle’ recently stating that he plans to break Ferguson’s arm. That of course didn’t sit too well with Ferguson, who was quick to fire back at Nurmagomedov, saying that a broken arm wouldn’t deter him from winning the interim lightweight belt.

He will do so on April 15, when the UFC touches down in Kansas City, Missouri with UFC on Fox 24. Stephens’ opponent will be Brazilian prospect Renato Moicano. This fight was announced on UFC Tonight on Wednesday evening.

With an impressive 6-fight win streak, many believed that Demian Maia would be up for the next welterweight title shot after Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson fought at UFC 205. Ultimately however, after Woodley retained his belt following a majority draw, the UFC opted to book a rematch between the two men for UFC 209, which takes place this Saturday. Demian Maia was left without a title fight, and was subsequently booked for a fight with Jorge Masvidal, which rubbed many fans the wrong way.
