UFC Fight Night 106 Results: Michel Prazeres submits Josh Burkman (Highlights)

A welterweight scrap between Josh Burkman and Michel Prazeres kicked off the UFC Fight Night 106 prelims on FS1. Round one begins and Prazeres starts off quickly. He lands a hard shot and Burkman is in trouble. Prazeres with a big combination that sends Burkman stumbling backwards against the fence. Michel is al over him here. Big shots against the cage. Burkman is doing his best to stay up but is in all sorts of trouble. He breaks off the cage but Prazeres quickly takes him to the floor. Michel locks up a north-south choke and seconds later Burkamn taps out. What a performance from Prazeres.
UFC Fight Night 106 Results: Jeremy Kennedy defeats Rony Jason (Highlights)

A featherweight scrap between Rony Jason and Jeremy Kennedy served as the featured bout of tonight’s UFC Fight Night 106 Fight Pass prelims in Brazil. Round one begins and Jason comes forward with a leaping right hand. Kennedy goes upstairs with a head kick which is partially blocked. Kennedy circles and pops a nice jab. Jason charges forward but Jeremy avoids him and then connects with a leg kick. Rony comes forward and lands a nice jab to the body. He continues to press forward and lands a right hand. More pressure from Rony and he lands a flying knee. The strike knocks Kennedy to the floor but he seems to be ok. Jeremy quickly works his way back up and then presses Jason against the fence. Kennedy scores with a takedown. He lands some ground and pound before Jason returns to his feet. The stand-up is short-lived as Kennedy drags Jason back to the canvas. Good shots from the top by Jeremy. Jason scrambles and gets back up but Kennedy immediately brings him back to the floor. Kennedy with a nasty elbow from the top. He works some short shots and then a couple of hard elbows. Round one comes to an end.

A middleweight tilt between Paulo Borrachinha and Garreth McLellan kicked off tonight’s UFC Fight Night 106 event in Fortaleza, Brazil. Round one begins and Borrachinha starts off quickly landing a nice right hand. He is pressuring McLellan early here. Paulo with a nice combination. He backs Garreth up against the cage. McLellan clinches up and throws a couple of knees. Paulo is relentless however and continues to throw big punches. He catches Garreth with another big right hand. McLellan goes down and Paul is quick to follow him to the ground. Big shots from the top by Paulo. The referee mercifully steps in and stops the fight.

Leading up to that fight, Correia was hailed as the most dangerous fighter Rousey had ever fought given her impressive knockout power. When the pair finally stepped in the Octagon in August of 2015, it took under a minute for Rousey to knock Correia out cold in what was one of the most destructive WMMA knockouts in history.

Back in December, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes set foot in the Octagon to fight former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in a highly anticipated showdown. Leading up to the fight, Rousy was the focus of the promos, drawing quite a bit of controversy given the fact that Nunes was the champion going into the fight. When the pair stepped in the Octagon, it took just 47 seconds for Nunes to stop the former champ via strikes, ending the long awaited ‘Ronda Rousey return’ following Rousey being knocked out by Holly Holm back in 2015.
Kelvin Gastelum still eyeing potential return to welterweight

The Ultimate Fighter season 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum is currently competing at middleweight following several botched weight-cuts to welterweight. Gastelum won season 17 of The Ultimate Fighter in the middleweight division, but then dropped to welterweight in order to fight opponents his size. With that being said, Gastelum missed weight on several occasions, resulting in UFC President Dana White banning him from cutting to welterweight, and forcing him to move up to the middleweight division. Gastelum made his first appearance at middleweight at UFC 206 in December, where he stepped into the Octagon against returning middleweight star Tim Kennedy for a highly anticipated, and very pivotal, middleweight showdown. Gastelum won the fight via 3rd round TKO, cementing his place at #10 on the UFC’s official middleweight division. He then signed to fight UFC veteran Vitor Belfort in the main event of ‘UFC Fight Night: 106’ this Saturday, where he has the opportunity to cement his place at the top of the UFC’s middleweight division with a potential win over a MMA legend.

This past weekend at UFC 209, ‘The Ultimate Fighter: Nations’ veteran Dan Kelly picked up an impressive unanimous decision win over Rashad Evans as he outstruck the former light heavyweight champ while taking ‘Suga’ down several times throughout the fight. Despite the win being a massive one for Kelly, he has yet to crack into the middleweight division’s top 15. With that being said, the win was certainly the biggest of the Olympic Judoka’s MMA career. Georges St-Pierre not leaving MMAAA

During his indefinite hiatus from the UFC, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre began his involvement in the MMA Athletes Association, also known as the MMAAA. St-Pierre then announced recently that he had signed a new multi-fight UFC contract. This was followed up by an announcement regarding St-Pierre’s first fight back in the Octagon. The odds were correct in predicting that St-Pierre would be fighting UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. Bisping vs. St-Pierre was made official for later in 2017, and was followed up by a press conference, where both men traded quite a few verbal jabs.

This past weekend, undefeated UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov was set to step into the Octagon with streaking lightweight contender Tony Ferguson for a highly anticipated showdown that would see one man crowned the interim lightweight champion, and earn one man the chance to fight Conor McGregor when he chooses to return following the birth of his child in May. Unfortunately, since Nurmagomedov’s withdrawal, reports have surfaced that Nurmagomedov’s father is currently considering pushing his son to retire. While there has been no word from Nurmagomedov himself regarding the situation, Nurmagomedov’s AKA teammate Luke Rockhold spoke to Submission Radio to give a very different take on the situation, also shedding light on why Nurmagomedov was forced out of the fight, saying:

This past weekend, undefeated UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov was set to step into the Octagon to fight Tony Ferguson in a highly anticipated interim lightweight title showdown. Unfortunately, the morning of weigh-ins, Nurmagomedov was forced to be hospitalized and subsequently forced out of the bout.
