Leading up to UFC 205, where Conor McGregor made history by securing two UFC title belts, the Irish superstar began a very heated rivalry with UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who was also fighting on the same card. McGregor was caught on camera mean mugging Woodley behind the scenes at the UFC 205 early weigh-ins, which then sparked a Twitter feud between the two as McGregor repeatedly called the welterweight champion of the world a “bitch”. McGregor was then caught on camera once more engaging with Woodley backstage, this time being separated by security guards who attempted to keep the Irishman away from ‘The Chosen One’ as McGregor repeatedly insulted Woodley.

This week, news surfaced that recently retired UFC light heavyweight Anthony Johnson had filed a formal appeal with the NYSAC regarding his fight with Daniel Cormier. The appeal revealed that Johnson was looking to have Cormier testify under oath as to why he held the privacy towel at the early UFC 210 weigh-ins, and if unable to provide proof as to why he did so, give Johnson 20% of his purse for the fight, as well as be stripped of the light heavyweight title.

This past weekend at UFC 210, UFC featherweight Charles Oliveira made his successful UFC lightweight debut as he picked up a 1st round submission win over Will Brooks to kick off the pay-per view portion of the main card. Following his big win over Brooks, Olvieira celebrated as many fighters do, by jumping the cage to celebrate. The New York State Athletic Commission wasn’t too fond of Oliveira’s celebration, and ultimately handed ‘Do Bronx’ a 60-day suspension for the incident. This followed the precedent set by the NYSAC when they suspended UFC middleweight #1 contender Yoel Romero for 60 days for climbing out of the cage to celebrate his 3rd round KO win over Chris Weidman. Ultimately, the suspension fell under the category of ‘exiting the fighting area’.

In his very next fight, Barboza stepped into the Octagon with Gilbert Melendez for another pivotal showdown. UFC 210 took place this past weekend as UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was able to defend his belt against the knockout specialist Anthony Johnson. Following Cormier’s second round submission win, Johnson surprised the MMA community by announcing his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts. Johnson said in the post-fight Octagon interview, “I gave my commitment to another job. Something that I have wanted to do for a while. It is not MMA related or anything like that. It is just time for me to move on to something else. I’m tired of getting punched by guys and rolling around on the ground with guys and stuff like that.”

This past weekend at UFC 210, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier defeated Anthony Johnson in a highly anticipated rematch two years in the making. Prior to the fight however, Cormier made headlines for his controversial weigh-in. The champ stepped in the scale with just minutes to go until time was up, and weighed-in at 206.2 pounds, 1.2 pounds over the light heavyweight title fight limit of 205 pounds. Just over two minutes later, Cormier emerged from backstage and weighed-in once again, this time leaning on the privacy towel so as to offset his weight and assist him in making weight without having to cut the extra 1.2 pounds.
