This past weekend at Bellator 181, Brandon Girtz stepped into the cage for a highly anticipated rubber match with Derek Campos. That trilogy saw the two men tied at 1 win apiece, as Campos won the pair’s first fight by unanimous decision in 2013, before Girtz then evened the score in 2015 as he knocked Campos out in the first round. This past weekend in the pair’s trilogy fight, Campos picked up a 2nd round TKO win after the doctor stopped the fight due to a horrendous cut on Girtz forehead, a cut that many quickly realized looked like the Michael Jordan ‘Jumpman’ logo.

Mario Yamasaki still standing by controversial Lee-Chiesa stoppage

Last month, veteran UFC referee Mario Yamasaki caught heat for a rather controversial stoppage he made during the UFC Fight Night 112 main event scrap between Michael Chiesa and Kevin Lee. With Chiesa trapped in a rear naked choke with no escape in sight, ‘The Maverick’ stopped hand fighting the choke, and momentarily appeared to go limp, at which point Yamasaki promptly stopped the fight. Immediately, Chiesa popped up to protest the stoppage, however the fight was already over. The stoppage was an extremely controversial one in the eyes of many because despite Chiesa momentarily stopping his hand fighting, he never verbally, or physically, tapped out.

Last July, in the co-main event of the stacked UFC 200, former UFC heavyweight champion and long-time WWE star Brock Lesnar made a return to the Octagon after a hiatus of many years. He did so against Mark Hunt for a substantial $2.5 million payday. Lesnar would win this fight, relying on his wrestling to capture a dominant unanimous decision win. Unfortunately, he tested positive for the banned substance clomiphene shortly thereafter, and his win over Hunt was overturned.

We have not seen current #1 UFC ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov compete since November of last year where he defeated Michael Johnson by submission in the third round. “The Eagle” was scheduled to fight #2 ranked lightweight Tony Ferguson in a UFC interim lightweight title fight at UFC 209 in March. However, Nurmagomdeov suffered weight management medical issues hours before the UFC 209 weigh-ins and was taken to a hospital and the interim title fight was canceled. Since the mishap, Khabib has stated that he has been recovering from his medical issues suffered in March and was aiming to fight Ferguson first and then Conor McGregor in the Winter. McGregor has stated that a fight with Nurmagomedov in his home country of Russia is something that has his interest after his mega money fight with Floyd Mayweather in August.

UFC, Bellator veteran arrested for "family violence"

Cody Pfister, who competed four times in the UFC lightweight division, has found himself in some hot water. According to BloodyElbow.com, the UFC veteran was arrested on July 15, and detained in the Potter County Detention Center in Amarillo, Texas after being charged with assault and causing bodily injury to a family member. Pfister’s arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred on June 5.

Mayweather is seen looking very quick and precise as he hits a double end bag while McGregor looks slower as he hits a much bigger, heavier, specialty bag. People have been comparing the two and are quick to assume that McGregor will have no chance when the two are in the boxing ring together.
