During today’s UFC 196 press conference, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor ripped in to Nate Diaz with the following statement: “Now as the fight comes closer Nate is acting like a scared little boy. Trying to pass the spotlight off to big brother Nick. Trying to pass the spotlight off to Gracie. Nate is trying to pass the limelight. That’s what a man does when he’s scared. He shy’s away and tries to pass it on. So that’s what you’re seeing with Nate. He’s talked a lot previous, saying he’s going to do this and going to do that. Now we are up here and we are doing this and he is saying absolutely nothing. He’s sitting in a little shell. So let’s see what he’s got. He even tried to pick on Jon Anik the other day. He has a bully mentality until a real man shows up. Like Mike Tyson said, ‘He’s scared of the real man!’”

Leading up to UFC 196 on Saturday, Jon Anik revealed that he believes Conor McGregor will defeat Nate Diaz in the main event. Despite being a fan of Diaz, Anik was so confident that McGregor would win that he stated he would get a ‘209’ tattoo on his forearm if Diaz won.

After it was announced that Nate Diaz would be stepping in for Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196, the UFC held a ‘UFC 196: McGregor vs. Diaz’ press conference the very next day. McGregor and Diaz put on a verbal show for the fans as they talked trash for nearly 30 minutes straight! Over the course of the press conference, McGregor called Diaz a “cholo” and mocked him for teaching Jiu-Jitsu seminars to kids.

Leading up to UFC 196, Jon Anik stated that if Nate Diaz is able to upset Conor McGregor in the main event, he will get a “209” tattoo in honor of Stockton native Nate Diaz. UFC veteran Nate Diaz has stepped up on short notice to fight UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor on March 5th at UFC 196. Diaz was selected by the UFC after lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of the fight with McGregor with an injury. Interestingly, former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis spoke on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani about his fight with Diaz that fell through.

When news broke that UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos had suffered an injury and was forced to pull out of his UFC 196 main event fight with Conor McGregor, many fighters decided to throw their name in the hat for the short-notice fight. Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber was one of those fighters. Unfortunately for the “California Kid”, former UFC lightweight challenger Nate Diaz ended up being the fighter selected to ‘fill the void’ for March’s UFC pay-per-view event.
