UFC 228, which takes place September 8 in Dallas, is headlined by a welterweight title fight featuring current champion Tyron Woodley taking on undefeated contender Darren Till.

Tyron Woodley has not competed inside the octagon since UFC 214 in July of 2017 when he defeated submission specialist Demian Maia via unanimous decision.

As for Woodley’s opponent Darren Till, the “Gorilla” was last seen in action this past May in his hometown of Liverpool where he scored a controversial unanimous decision victory over former two-time title challenger Stephen Thompson.

“Per his management, Usman will in fact submit medicals and weigh-in during fight week, in the event something happens to Woodley or Till before UFC 228 in Dallas.” Brett Okamoto

Darren Till has had his struggles making the non-title welterweight limit of 171-pounds in the past.

In fact, the Liverpool native has missed weight in two of his past four octagon appearances, most recently in his UFC Liverpool headliner against “Wonderboy”, where the “Gorilla” weighed in at 174-pounds.

Till’s other most recent miss came in May of 2017, when he weighed in at 176-pounds for his fight with Jessin Ayari.

In Kamaru Usman the UFC now has a backup plan incase anything is to happen to either Tyron Woodley or Darren Till.

“The Nigerian Nightmare” has won twelve straight fights, his latest being a unanimous decision victory over former title challenger Demian Maia in May.

If Usman is not needed at UFC 228, he will most likely be fighting former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos later this fall.
