Dricus du Plessis accuses ‘little someone’ Kamaru Usman of delaying possible UFC OKC fight announcement

Former UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis believes Kamaru Usman is having second thoughts on fighting him later this year.

Dricus du Plessis hasn’t fought in the UFC Octagon since a lopsided defeat to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 319 last year. After a dominant title reign, Du Plessis suffered his first UFC defeat to Chimaev, but Chimaev’s recent loss puts him back in the title mix.

Rumors are swirling that Du Plessis will welcome former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman back to the middleweight division for their next fight. The UFC’s long-awaited return to Oklahoma City on July 18th is rumored to be headlined by Du Plessis vs. Usman, although as of this writing, nothing has been formally announced by the promotion.

According to Du Plessis, Usman is to blame for the ongoing delay of solidifying their rumored showdown.

In a recent Instagram post, Du Plessis sent a veiled message to Usman ahead of anticipated news of their fight.

“So apparently a little someone agreed to a fight, but actually signing the dotted line isn’t that easy when you know you’re just signing for a show purse,” Du Plessis said.

“Smart-Yes. Scared-Definitely. Sorry, people, the announcement is taking longer than expected, but from my side, it’s been signed and sealed for a while.”

As of this writing, Usman hasn’t responded to Du Plessis’s comments. Usman was originally expected to return to welterweight after a victorious return against Joaquin Buckley at UFC Atlanta last year.

As the UFC potentially moves away from granting Usman a shot at Islam Makhachev, Du Plessis is waiting in the wings to welcome him back to the cage. But in the meantime, the UFC OKC main event remains a mystery.
