The circumstances of Jon Jones’ dealings with the United States Anti-Doping Agency are extremely mysterious. It’s been well over a year since the former light heavyweight champion’s failed drug test, which came to light after his July, 2017 fight with Daniel Cormier, yet we still have no answers with respect to his punishment. This has led some members of the MMA community to speculate that there could be some kind of seediness going on with Jon Jones’ case — perhaps even a financial payoff to accelerate his return to the cage.

If all goes according to the UFC’s plan, the next crack at UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will go to former champion and WWE star Brock Lesnar. While a Cormier vs. Lesnar fight is almost certain to do big business, it’s caused a bit of a headache for the UFC’s top heavyweight contenders, such as Curtis Blaydes. Blaydes, like many members of the MMA community, feels that Lesnar doesn’t belong anywhere near a UFC heavyweight title shot. Lesnar, of course, hasn’t won a fight since 2010, when he choked out Shane Carwin. Though there was briefly a win over Mark Hunt on his record in 2016, that win was overturned when he tested positive for a banned substance.

In the subsequent days, however, it was learned that Jones had failed a pre-fight drug test. His knockout win was then ruled a no contest, and the title was returned to Cormier, who has held it ever since. This afternoon, Jon Jones took to Instagram with a deep and reflective statement on his last bout with Cormier, and how he’s spent the year since.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (22-1 MMA) has not stepped foot inside the octagon since his UFC 214 grudge match with Daniel Cormier last July in Anaheim. “Bones” proved victorious over “DC” that night via third-round knockout. However, the title fight rematch was eventually changed to a no-contest this after Jones failed his final pre-fight drug test which detected trace amounts of the anabolic steroid turinabol in his system.
