Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka didn’t take kindly to Carlos Ulberg shutting down a rematch over ‘mercy’ claims.

The UFC 327 vacant light heavyweight title bout between Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg ended in a shocking come-from-behind knockout just minutes into their headliner. After Prochazka appeared to injure Ulberg’s leg with kicks, Prochazka’s output slowed down dramatically, and Ulberg countered his hesitation with a one-punch knockout in Round 1.

It was a stunning finish to an entertaining card at UFC 327 as Ulberg signaled a new era in the UFC light heavyweight division. Ulberg won the belt after Alex Pereira vacated it earlier this year to make the full-time move to heavyweight.

In the Octagon after the fight, Prochazka hinted he showed ‘mercy’ to Ulberg when asked for the reason behind his low activity level following his opponent’s injury. Ulberg didn’t take kindly to this sentiment, as he shut down a rematch with Prochazka in a post-fight interview and questioned Prochazka’s authenticity.

Prochazka, who rarely engages in trash talk with his UFC opponents, broke his cardinal rule.

In a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Prochazka responded to Ulberg.

“I don’t want to hear this b******* from a stripper,” Prochazka said.

“First of all, I didn’t say ‘mercy’. Joe Rogan said it was [merciful]. I saw Carlos, he was hurt, and I wasn’t prepared for the fight to become an easy fight. The only thing I know is hard work, beat the opponent…congrats, he’s the champion. He caught me; I accept that. But all of these things about saying I’m playing [a character], I’m too old. I don’t want to play a role, I want to be real.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to work. I understand what I need to change inside myself, my team, my preparation,” Prochazka continued. “It’ll just be hard work, being precise, faster, stronger, and smarter in the next fight.”

Ulberg is expected to be sidelined for months to recover from a torn ACL suffered at UFC 327. As of this writing, it’s uncertain whether or not the UFC will book an interim title bout in Ulberg’s absence, although Prochazka hinted that news about his return could be shared in the coming weeks.
