Jiri Prochazka shares prediction for Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane for interim heavyweight title fight

Jiri Prochazka believes Alex Pereira will do well at heavyweight.

Pereira vacated his light heavyweight title to move up to heavyweight to fight Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight title. Heading into the bout, oddsmakers have it as a pick’em, but Prochazka, who has fought Periera twice, believes the Brazilian will get the better of Gane to win a title in his third weight class.

“Let the better man win. I believe Alex can do that,” Prochazka told Adin Ross (via MMAJunkie). “Alex can do that, especially when I saw him, his weight is going up. He’s strong enough, too, and in the stand-up, I believe he will be better. But Gane has a lot of movement for that.”

If Pereira does beat Gane at the White House, it would be a statement win for the Brazilian and cement him as an all-time great.

If Alex Pereira does get his hand raised at heavyweight, his next fight would be for the undisputed heavyweight title.

Yet, Prochazka is hopeful that he can eventually move up to heavyweight to face Pereira for the third time. Prochazka is 0-2 against Pereira in his career, but he believes he can have more success at heavyweight.

“When I fought in Rizin in Japan, I fought with the heavyweight guys many times,” Prochazka said to MMAJunkie. “I can push my body to show much more strength and be able to fight with these types of guys, with these heavyweight and still be faster, more endurance, precise, all these things so it’s a really good idea for me.”

Before Prochazka can think about moving up to heavyweight, he will be fighting Carlos Ulberg for the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 327 on Saturday in Miami. Prochazka is looking to reclaim the title he vacated due to an injury he sustained.
