Islam Makhachev pushes UFC KO artist to fight at UFC Serbia in classy voice message

UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev made a direct plea to one light heavyweight contender to fight at UFC Serbia.

The UFC is looking at moving into new markets later in 2026 and beyond. It’s been reported by multiple outlets recently that the UFC is finalizing an upcoming Fight Night event in Serbia, marking the first time the promotion will host an event in the country.

Many UFC fighters, past and present, call Serbia their native homes. Serbia has produced plenty of high-tier combat sports talent in recent years, and the passion for fighting there is prominent.

UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev has visited Serbia numerous times for training and non-MMA-related reasons. Makhachev is targeting his return to the Octagon later this year for his first welterweight title defense.

While Makhachev likely won’t fight in Serbia as he prepares for another major event atmosphere, he made a direct plea to a top UFC light heavyweight to get ready to potentially headline the upcoming card.

In a recent interview with Arena TV, UFC light heavyweight Aleksandar Rakic listened to a voice message from Makhachev imploring him to get ready for UFC Serbia.

“Hey bro! I heard the news that the UFC will come to Serbia, you have to fight here,” Makhachev said to Rakic.

“You are a big example for the new generation here, that’s why. You have to be ready, and beat someone here. Train hard, man, and I hope to see you one day.”

Rakic hasn’t fought since a TKO loss to Azamat Murzakanov at UFC 321 last year. He’s lost four fights in a row since a unanimous decision win against Thiago Santos at UFC 259.

Rakic has plenty of time to get back on track in the UFC light heavyweight division, and Makhachev’s motivational message could be the catalyst to turning things around.
