The ongoing saga of former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre‘s comeback fight continues to be a confusing one, as the former champion has now proclaimed that he is remaining “positive” in hopes of a fight with middleweight champion Michael Bisping happens, despite his eye injury sidelining him through the fall.

While UFC President Dana White was quick to inform fans that the UFC wasn’t planning to wait until St-Pierre’s eye injury healed, ‘Rush’ revealed in a recent interview with TSN that he spoke to Dana White on the phone, and is confident that after their conversation, he will still have the opportunity to return to the Octagon and fight Micheal Bisping.

“(Their plans were) changing, but I talked to Dana a few days ago,” GSP told TSN. “I tried to convince him that it was a good thing — that if I comeback, it needs to be in a situation that I put a lot of risk, but I need something that I can gain from it. So big risk big reward, and fighting Michael Bisping, that’s what it gives me.”

“I’m positive, I think it will happen. I think after the conversation I had with him — because the problem that I had with Dana, which is my mistake, is we talk through reporters. There’s declarations and stuff, so I think it’s good that we talked to each other, and we can see where our minds our at, and work together for the benefit of the UFC, of me, and for the fans.”

This of course likely means that St-Pierre would of course cut the line at middleweight once again, despite the interim middleweight title fight between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker this summer, which will likely see the winner secure a fight with Michael Bisping.
