Recently, at UFC 212, Max Holloway became the undisputed UFC featherweight champion following his 3rd round TKO win over Jose Aldo in Brazil.
Following the fight, Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar both expressed mutual interest in fighting one another in Holloway’s first featherweight title defense. With that being said, top ranked featherweight Cub Swanson has been campaigning for a title shot.

Below, you can read the cases for both men’s title shots, followed by a poll where you can vote on who should get the next featherweight title shot.
Frankie Edgar: The former UFC lightweight champion has been nearly perfect since making the drop to featherweight in 2013. In his featherweight debut, Edgar dropped a unanimous decision to Jose Aldo at UFC 156. ‘The Answer’ responded by rattling off 5 straight wins, which included a submission win over Cub Swanson, a unanimous decision win over Urijah Faber, and a KO win over Chad Mendes. At UFC 200, Edgar fought Jose Aldo in a highly anticipated rematch, this time for the interim featherweight title. Edgar lost the fight via unanimous decision, however he bounced back by picking up a dominant decision win over Jeremy Stephens, followed by a brutal TKO win over streaking featherweight Yair Rodriguez.
– Featherweight UFC record: 7-2
– Current win streak: 2
Cub Swanson: Swanson has earned the reputation as arguably one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC’s featherweight division. After losing his UFC debut to Ricardo Lamas in 2011, Swanson bounced back by going on a 6-fight win streak that saw him finish 4 of his 6 opponents, and earning 4 performance bonuses in the process. In 2014, Swanson had his win streak snapped by Frankie Edgar, who submitted Swanson in the 5th round. Following that, Swanson dropped a 3rd round submission loss to Max Holloway at ‘UFC Fight Night: Newark’ in 2015. He bounced back from the 2-fight skid by rattling off 4 straight wins, with the two most recent ones earning him ‘Fight of the Night’ honors for his unanimous decision wins over Choi Doo-Ho, and Artem Lobov.
– Featherweight UFC record: 10-3
