Fedor Emelianenko's next fight official for June 17th

Exciting news broke Friday morning that MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko would be returning to MMA on June 17th in front of the Russian fans. Emelianenko made an emphatic return to MMA on New Years Eve as he mauled Jaideep Singh in Japan. Since then there has been much speculation as to when his next fight would be, and where it would take place.

Former manager of Fedor Emelianenko thinks that if Fedor wanted to be in the UFC, 'he would have already been there'

MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko recently stated that he would like to get a rematch with UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum. The two met in Strikeforce in 2010 where Werdum pulled off a major upset on the highly touted Emelianenko. Vadim Finkelchtein, long-time friend and former manager of Emelianenko spoke about Emelianenko’s recent statement in a report from Bloody Elbow about wanting a rematch with Werdum.

Sakakibara gives update on Fedor Emelianenko vs. Wanderlei Silva fight

When it was announced that Wanderlei Silva had signed with Rizin FF, there were immediately talks of Silva potentially fighting MMA icon Fedor Emelianenko. While Emelianenko has stated that his next fight will be soon, and likely in Russia, fans can’t help but wonder if Emelianenko and Silva will fight this year. Rizin FF President Sakakibara spoke to BloodyElbow through a translator:

Fedor Emelianenko wants rematch with Fabricio Werdum

Back in 2009, MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko made his Strikeforce debut as he knocked out Brett Rogers in the 2nd round of their headlining fight. In just his second Strikeforce fight, Emelianenko was submitted by Jiu-Jitsu phenom Fabricio Werdum. To this day, the loss remains the only submission loss on Emelianenko’s record. Now, following a successful return to MMA on New Years Eve, Emelianenko is looking to avenge his loss to Werdum, who is now the UFC heavyweight champion.

After Fedor Emelianenko’s successful return to MMA on New Year’s Eve against Jaideep Singh under the Rizin FF banner, fans began calling for ‘The Last Emperor’ to fight a high-profile opponent. Emelianenko revealed after the bout that he would in fact be fighting again, most likely in April, and that he would prefer it to be under the Rizin banner once again.

Looks like Fedor Emelianenko is back at it teasing the UFC and the fans about a potential signing with the UFC. “The Last Emperor” recently fought at Rizin Fighting Federation against Singh Jaideep at the NYE event last year. “I’m open to all organizations – said Emelianenko told reporters. – If you have any suggestions, we look at all of them. In this respect, we like to work with Rizin – contracts are not exclusive. Regarding M1 big question. Rather, perhaps my appearance in the UFC, than in M1. ”
