UFC 299 Results: Dustin Poirier KO’s Benoit Saint-Denis (Video)

Poirier (30-8 MMA) will enter the contest looking to rebound, this after suffering a nasty knockout loss to Justin Gaethje in his most previous effort at UFC 291. Prior to that setback, ‘The Diamond’ was coming off a submission victory over Michael Chandler in November of 2022.

Meanwhile, Benoit Saint-Denis (13-2 MMA) most recently competed at November’s UFC 295 event, where he scored a highlight reel knockout over Matt Frevola (see that here). That victory marked the Frenchman’s fifth in a row, with all five wins coming by way of stoppage.

Round one of the UFC 299 co-main event begins and Benoit Saint-Denis lands a pair of low kicks early. Dustin Poirier returns fire with one of his own. ‘BSD’ pushes forward and looks for a takedown. Poirier snatches up a guillotine choke and it is tight. Saint-Denis ultimately breaks free and now has ‘The Diamond’ pressed up against the cage. He moves to take the back, this while landing some decent left hands. Poirier is complaining that his glove is being grabbed. He breaks free from the position but then gets caught with a knee. He locks up another guillotine choke but once again Saint-Denis breaks free from the hold. Dustin Poirier with a good left hand. Benoit Saint-Denis just charges forward and lands some big shots. The fighters are back in the clinch and Saint-Denis is landing some big shots. Poirier returns fire with a big right hand. That appeared to have opened a cut on the Frenchman. ‘The Diamond’ jumps on another guillotine attempt, but ‘BSD’ escapes and takes top position on the mat. He moves the back of the former interim champ and secures a body lock. Dustin Poirier looks to scramble but gives up his arm. Saint-Denis locks in an armbar but the horn sounds to end round one.

Round two of the UFC 299 co-main event begins and Benoit Saint-Denis immediately comes forward with ferocity. He looks for a takedown. Dustin Poirier looks for a guillotine but once again he is unable to finish the submission. ‘BSD’ pops his head out and takes the back of his opponent. He looks for a rear-naked choke but Poirier scrambles and escapes to his feet. Big shots in the pocket by Saint-Denis. Poirier gets back to range and lands a left. Another left and ‘The God of War’ goes down. Dustin Poirier continues the assault. He drops the Frenchman again. A big right hand. This one is all over!
