UFC White House headliners Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje came face-to-face for the first time since things got personal ahead of fight night.

UFC lightweight titleholders Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje are days away from fighting on the White House lawn in the UFC Freedom 250 main event. The seven-fight card at the White House features plenty of big names, including Alex Pereira’s heavyweight debut against former interim titleholder Ciryl Gane.

Despite initial cordiality exchanged between Topuria and Gaethje after the initial fight announcement, things have turned personal in recent weeks. After Gaethje’s father got involved in the pre-fight buildup, Topuria’s recent personal issues outside the Octagon became Gaethje’s preferred trash-talk angle.

Topuria and Gaethje are expected to put on a show on the White House lawn this weekend, and their building feud has added to the anticipation. After weeks of trading personal barbs, the two lightweights came face-to-face for the first time during UFC Freedom 250 fight week.

Topuria and Gaethje came face-to-face on a recent joint appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

Topuria, unbeaten in his UFC career, earned the then-vacant UFC lightweight title by defeating Charles Oliveira last year at UFC 317. He handed Oliveira one of his few knockout losses, but Topuria underwent a long hiatus from competition to deal with family-related issues.

In Topuria’s absence, Gaethje won the interim UFC lightweight title over Paddy Pimblett at UFC 324 earlier this year. This will be Gaethje’s third career shot at winning the lineal UFC lightweight title, following losses to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Oliveira.

A potential Topuria vs. Pimblett matchup could become one of the lightweight division’s most entertaining buildups, but Gaethje’s ongoing feud with Topuria is making a strong case. In the meantime, tensions are rising ahead of the unprecedented event.
