Report Update: Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 2 will be UFC 200 main event
Russell Ess - March 21, 2016
Last week, it was reported by Ariel Helwani that the UFC was working on a rematch between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and UFC veteran Nate Diaz for UFC 200. Helwani gave his update on the MMA Hour on Monday reiterated that the immediate rematch is still in the works. Helwani said, “Oh by the way, it’s not happening at a more natural 155-pounds. It’s happening at 170-pounds and an interesting thing has happened since I put out this report. Of course, a lot of other media sources confirmed it and that’s all well and good, and they did it right, they credited, I have no beef. But, a lot of what was said and reported was incorrect. By the time that the news came out, a lot of people said they are working on it, but there were no contracts, they verbally agreed. I can assure you that the contracts had already been issued, not signed, but anyone who told you that there were no contracts issued, thus making it a little less of a real thing, that was inaccurate.”

Russell Ess - March 18, 2016
Initially after the fight between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz at UFC 196, there was not a lot of talk about an immediate rematch. Diaz was able to withstand an early onslaught from McGregor in the opening round and turned things around in the second. Diaz hurt McGregor with punches and was able to utilize his black belt-level jiu-jitsu game to secure a rear-naked choke on McGregor to hand him his first loss in the UFC. With reports floating around that the UFC is looking to book an immediate rematch between the two stars at UFC 200, you have to wonder if this is simply a demand that McGregor has come up with.
