UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is now just days away from the first defense of his title. This defense, which will occur in the main event of Saturday night’s UFC 205, will see him attempt to thwart featherweight champ Conor McGregor‘s attempt to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold to belts at once. As this massive bout draws ever closer, Alvarez is fulfilling the last of his media obligations. One of these obligations was the media workout that traditionally occurs in the lead-up to a card of this scale. After this workout, which occured on the home hardwood of The New York Knicks, Alvarez took a moment to address the media and fans in attendance. During this interaction with the crowd, he offered up a prediction as to the outcome of his looming bout with McGregor.

Saturday night in New York, the UFC will host what is being considered the biggest event in the promotion’s history. Headlining the event of course, is a historic lightweight title fight between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, and UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, in a fight which could potentially see McGregor enter into the UFC history books as the first simultaneous two-division UFC champion. In the past, McGregor has set several UFC records, with his recent UFC 202 fight with Nate Diaz setting the record for most PPV buys, beating out the previous record set by the historic UFC 100 card back in 2009.

While UFC President Dana White has remained adamant that if McGregor wins, he must vacate one of the two title belts in order to prevent holding up either division, McGregor began by stating that it would take an army for the UFC brass to take one of the titles away from him. More recently, McGregor changed his tune, stating that before there are talks of him vacating a belt, he would like to make history by winning the fight, and appreciate the moment before shifting to those talks.

While Conor McGregor and Rafael dos Anjos may not have fought at UFC 196 for the lightweight championship as initially planned, McGregor’s training for dos Anjos very well could have helped him prepare for his current opponent, Eddie Alvarez. McGregor, who faces Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 this Saturday, where he hopes to capture the lightweight championship and become the first man in the history f the UFC to simultaneously hold two championship belts, was set to face dos Anjos in the main event of UFC 196 back in March for the lightweight title. Unfortunately, just two weeks before the fight, dos Anjos pulled out of the fight with a broken foot and was replaced by Nate Diaz, who ultimately handed McGregor the first loss of his UFC career.

“The Notorious” Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez were a part of a UFC 205 conference call with the media on Thursday. The two opponents had their verbal warfare going back and forth but one of the exchanges, in particular, was quite entertaining. McGregor was asked by a member of the media if he was preparing for Eddie Alvarez’s grinding wrestling style, which he had some trouble with against Chad Mendes at UFC 189 back in July of 2015.

With a professional record of 28 wins and 4 losses that recently saw him capture the UFC lightweight championship earlier this year by knocking out Rafael dos Anjos in the first round of their scrap back in July, the lightweight champ is now set to headline arguably the biggest event in the history of MMA, UFC 205 on November 12th. Alvarez’s UFC 205 fight with featherweight champion Conor McGregor has already broken several Madison Square Garden records according to UFC President Dana White, despite the fact that the fight is still over a week away.
