On the heels of Conor McGregor’s historic UFC 205 win over Eddie Alvarez this past Saturday that saw him claim the UFC lightweight championship and make history as the first man to simultaneously hold UFC championship belts in two weight classes, McGregor was criticized by boxing icon Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather, who was briefly linked to a potential boxing match with McGregor prior to UFC 200, where McGregor was slated to fight Nate Diaz in a highly anticipated rematch before then ultimately being pulled from the card for refusing to fulfill his promotional obligations, wasn’t too happy to hear that people were comparing McGregor to him following his UFC 205 win this past weekend.

He shut the talks down in an interview, saying:

“I didn’t know Conor McGregor was undefeated, I didn’t know he’s been reigning [over] MMA twenty years undefeated, and was world champion in five different weight classes. That’s something I didn’t know…So I guess you guys are telling me something new if you’re saying he’s the Floyd Mayweather of MMA. If you’re saying he’s the Floyd Mayweather of MMA I’m trying to find out, has he ever made $300 million in one night? Have you ever made $100 million in one night? Have you ever made $70 million in one night. As far as trying to say he’s the Floyd Mayweather of MMA, I mean it’s okay to say it…it’s just not true.”

“I’m a legend, a living legend, I gave years and years of hard work to the sport of boxing, it was blood, sweat, & tears, had a tremendous team, a tremendous run. Conor McGregor goes out there and does what he does, but never compare Conor McGregor to me. That’s a total disrespect. I’m an elephant, elephant don’t beef with ants. Elephant is so large he doesn’t even see ants.”

In addition, Mayweather claimed that he didn’t even know McGregor had fought this past weekend. When McGregor was asked by TMZ about Mayweather’s comments, specifically the comments regarding being an ant to Mayweather the two-division champ fired back by simply stating:

“Say it to my face!”
