Colby Covington responds to recent rumors of Conor McGregor fight at the White House despite Dana White’s dismissals

UFC welterweight star Colby Covington answered recent rumors of a potential Conor McGregor fight at the White House.

A rumored Conor McGregor vs. Colby Covington targeted fight booking at the White House raised eyebrows throughout the UFC’s fanbase earlier this month. McGregor, who hasn’t fought since injuring his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, is targeting a return to the cage in June on the upcoming White House card.

Covington is an avid supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump and seems like a shoo-in for the upcoming event on the White House lawn. But Covington hasn’t competed since a loss to Joaquin Buckley in December 2024 and is likely on the final stretch of his fighting career.

McGregor could potentially fight at welterweight for his return to the Octagon after five years away from the cage. If that comes to fruition, Covington could be called upon to oppose the UFC superstar.

Colby Covington: ‘I’m a tough matchup’ for Conor McGregor at the White House

In a recent interview with talkSPORT, Covington reacted to the recent rumors surrounding a potential White House fight.

“I don’t know. Conor kind of calls his shots,” Covington responded.

“He gets to kind of pick who he wants, and I don’t know if he wants to fight a guy like me. I’m a tough matchup. I’m probably the toughest, most well-rounded fighter in the UFC. So, I think he may be looking for a striker or maybe an older guy.

“I don’t think he’s gonna look for someone like me, but I would love the opportunity if it ever presents itself.” (h/t Bloody Elbow)

In response to the recent rumors, UFC CEO Dana White called them ‘100 percent BS’. He and the matchmakers are currently working on putting together the card, with announcements possible as soon as later this month.
