Dustin Poirier reveals Bud Light terminated contract immediately after viral arrest: ‘Don’t need that poison’

Former UFC star Dustin Poirier’s post-fighting partnership with Bud Light is over following his recent arrest for public intoxication.

Since Dustin Poirier retired from fighting at UFC 318 last year, the former interim lightweight champion has repeatedly opened up about the difficulties of his post-fighting life. Poirier’s inner demons came to a head when he was arrested at an Atlanta airport last month for public intoxication, after he was kicked off a flight set to depart for Florida.

Poirier has since committed himself to sobriety, having admitted he’s had an issue with alcohol for months leading up to his arrest. If convicted of the public intoxication misdemeanor, Poirier faces up to a year in prison and/or a fine.

Poirier recently admitted that a big sponsor cut ties with him in the hours following his arrest on Father’s Day. After months of appearing in Bud Light commercials, Poirier’s partnership has come to an unfortunate end.

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Poirier was pressed about where things stand with Bud Light and shared somber news.

“They terminated my contract immediately,” Poirier said.

“It’s all good, I don’t need that f—– poison in my life. It sucks that my family loses out on the money that I had on the deal with them, which was a few hundred thousand dollars. But if I’m representing something I’m not going to be taking part in, and promoting, it is what it is.

“There’s plenty of people who drink responsibly, but I’m not one of them. I’m not that person.”

Poirier walked away from Mixed Martial Arts last year following a loss to then-BMF champ Max Holloway at UFC 318. He’s repeatedly teased a potential comeback in recent months for a fight with the likes of Justin Gaethje and Nate Diaz.
