Belal Muhammad plans to remind everyone he’s still one of the best welterweights in the world.

Muhammad is set to headline UFC Vegas 118 on Saturday against Gabriel Bonfim in a pivotal fight at welterweight. Despite losing his last two fights, Muhammad enters the bout as a -130 favorite while the Brazilian is a +102 underdog on FanDuel.

Although Muhammad has lost back-to-back fights, as he dropped a decision to Jack Della Maddalena to lose his title, and then most recently, lost to Ian Machado Garry, he remains confident he’s one of the best welterweights in the world. So, he plans to prove that against Gabriel Bonfim at UFC Vegas 118 on Saturday.

“I’ve fought many guys like him,” Muhammad said at UFC Vegas 118 media day. “He’s got a beatable style. With me, I’ve got an awkward style, I’ve got a different type of style, and I’m a different type of fighter than he’s ever fought. I think Saturday, he gets broken.

“I plan on showing the world that I’m still the best guy. To remind people who I am. I think I’m the best fighter in the world, but I’ve just got to go out there and get my hand raised to prove it. Showing them I’m so well-rounded that everyone is going to be asking, ‘Who’s next for him?'”

If Muhammad does get his hand raised against Bonfim, he will be right back in title contention, which is his goal.

Belal Muhammad plans to stop Gabriel Bonfim’s hype

Muhammad is also well aware that Bonfim has plenty of hype as a potential future contender. So, the former champ says his goal is to put that to an end.

“Young, hungry guy that’s looking to take my spot – he just picked the wrong guy to do it with,” Muhammad said. “Any fight is your biggest fight. … Saturday night, that’s my moment. It doesn’t matter who he is, where he’s from, or what he’s trying to take. It’s not going to be with me.”

Muhammad enters the bout with a record of 24-5 and one NC. Before the back-to-back losses, he was on an 11-fight unbeaten streak. During that run, he upset Leon Edwards to become the welterweight champion.
