Tyson Fury nearly shocked the world last night in Los Angeles. Fury challenged WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in a highly anticipated fight, with both men entering the contest sporting undefeated professional records. Ultimately, Fury, who was the underdog, found success against Wilder throughout success fight. That was until Wilder knocked him to the canvas, twice. The second time it appeared the fight was over. However, much to the shock of the ‘Bronze Bomber’ and everyone watching, Tyson Fury got up and the fight went to the decision.

On Saturday night, Tyson Fury stepped into the ring with WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder. Despite being the underdog heading into the fight, the Brit dominated the majority of the contest, save the eighth and 12th rounds when he was dropped by his powerful opponent. Despite his success throughout the fight, Tyson Fury was not announced the winner. Instead, the bout was ruled a draw, which means both fighters will leave Los Angeles with their undefeated records still intact.

Tyson Fury pocketed a hefty $10 million purse for his Saturday night draw with WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder. Apparently, however, he does not plan on keeping much of it. Pre-fight, “The Gypsy King” reportedly announced his intention to donate his purse to people in need.

Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury were not the only world class boxers to compete last night. Thousands of miles away from their showdown in Los Angeles, long-time WBC light heavyweight champ Adonis Stevenson attempted to defend his title for a 10th time against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Gvozdyk in Quebec City, Canada. After ten fairly competitive rounds, Gvozdyk cranked up the offense in the 11th, and ended the reign of the long-time champion Adonis Stevenson with a snappy four-punch combo.

In the 12th round of his riveting title fight with England’s Tyson Fury, WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder uncorked a combination that seemed to secure his victory. In an instant, Fury was supine on the canvas, arms at his sides, staring up at the Jumbotron. It looked like it was all over. But then Fury got up — and somehow, won the remainder of the round. The two fighters reached the final bell, and the judges scored the fight a draw.

Unfortunately, this outcome was shadowed in controversy, as the majority of onlookers felt Fury did enough to earn a win. Wilder, of course, was not without his moments in the contest. The American’s biggest moment of the bout came in the 12th and final round, when he landed an absolutely thunderous knockdown on Fury — which initially looked more like a knockout outright.

Last Saturday night, Oscar De La Hoya promoted his first-ever MMA event under the Golden Boy MMA banner. In the weeks leading up to this MMA card, which was headlined by a trilogy fight between UFC Hall of Famers Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell, there was plenty of reason to believe it was a one-off for De La Hoya. Yet according to Fernie Garcia, who fought on the undercard of the event, this is not the case. “I have heard that they are [going to do more MMA],” Garcia told BJPENN.com of Golden Boy MMA. “I have heard that the plan was for two events. So they are going to have two events. From what I know, they are going to have another event for sure.”

Speaking on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, the UFC boss unleashed a virulent tirade against the bout’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya, Tito Ortiz, and the California State Athletic Commission for allowing this fight to happen.

While some fight fans were impressed by Oscar De La Hoya’s first MMA offering, Bellator MMA star Chael Sonnen was not. In fact, he’s calling it a ‘disaster.’

Floyd Mayweather vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov could still happen. If the fight between the undefeated boxer and undefeated mixed martial artist does happen, well, the rules would seem to be quite simple. Mayweather believes the fight has to be inside the boxing ring, just like his fight with Conor McGregor in August of 2017.
