Team Lakay will be coming to Tokyo, Japan in full force when ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard Folayang and ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin Belingon defend their respective World Titles at ONE: A New Era. Folayang is set to duke it out against local hero Shinya Aoki in a highly-anticipated rematch for the ONE Lightweight World Title in the main event.

When one is searching for the ultimate success story within the history of ONE Championship, few are a better subject than the “Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang. The current ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion has been with the organization since 2014, and he’s come into his own as a martial artist and champion. Aung La would announce his arrival with ONE Championship in grand fashion. At ONE: Era of Champions in Jakarta, Indonesia, he needed just over a minute to score a TKO victory over Mahmoud Salama in his promotional debut.

Geje Eustaquio had his hands full in his defense of the ONE Flyweight World Championship against Brazilian arch-nemesis Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes in a rubber match at ONE: Hero’s Ascent last January. Although he fell short in keeping the belt around his waist versus Moraes, he never had to look far to find a motivation to pick himself up.

For Gina Iniong, 2019 is the year where she hopes to contribute to the prestige her gym currently possess. Iniong competed twice in 2018, starting the year right with a unanimous decision over Jenny Huang last 20 April at the ONE: Heroes of Honor.

Team Lakay’s Honorio Banario faltered in his goal to hand undefeated American Lowen Tynanes the first setback of his professional career. The two warriors met in the quarter-final round of the highly-anticipated ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix on the main card of ONE: Hero’s Ascent which took place last 25 January at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.

In a shocking turn of events, Team Lakay lost two World Titles in a span of two weeks to start 2019. However head coach Mark Sangiao believes his wards will soon become World Champions once again. Joshua Pacio in particular, the former ONE Strawweight World Champion, Sangiao believes is still improving. “It’s difficult and heartbreaking for me to see my athlete who worked really hard lose. But like what we always say, we either win or we learn,” said Sangiao.

ONE Championship has added a whopping fourth title fight to its March 31 debut in Tokyo, Japan, and it’s a big one. In addition to the three title fights already on the ONE: A New Era bill, the card will now also feature the first title defense of new bantamweight champion Kevin Belingon. Belingon will defend the title against the man he won it from at ONE: Heart of the Lion in November, bantamweight legend Bibiano Fernandes.

ONE Championship made some major moves in 2018 with the additions of Eddie Alvarez, Demetrious Johnson, and Sage Northcutt among others. In addition to those big names, ONE Championship also signed atomweight Bi Nguyen, a JacksonWink MMA product and a contestant on the last season of the hit reality TV series Survivor. Unfortunately for Nguyen, she suffered a knee injury which forced her to pull out of the popular TV show. Although the doctors said she could still compete, Nguyen didn’t want to risk suffering further damager to her knee.

On Friday night ONE Championship returns to beautiful Manila with the exciting ONE: Hero’s Ascent card. This ONE: Hero’s Ascent event is topped by a flyweight title fight between reigning champ Geje Eustaquio and former champion Adriano Moraes, who have fought twice previously, going 1-1.

The future looked very bright for the young Hawaiian, as a ONE Championship lightweight title shot seemed to be just around the corner. Unfortunately, he has not fought since.
