Daniel Cormier put the entire light heavyweight division on notice when he defeated Anthony “Rumble” Johnson for the vacated championship at UFC 187. With Jon “Bones” Jones out of the picture at the time, Cormier was the man to beat and he had a giant target around his waist in the form of the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
Cormier may have been able to hold on to the title, but one never truly feels like a champion until they successfully defend it at least once. Alexander Gustafsson would be Cormier’s first challenger for his newly-won crown and the two light heavyweights went to war at UFC 192. Both fighters were battered, bloodied and bruised when all was said and done but it was Cormier who would have his hand raised in victory once again. It was a painful ending to Cormier’s busy 2015 year that made him have the urge to sit the rest of the year out before talking about another fight.
In the video above, you can go behind the scenes at “UFC 192” before, after, and during Cormier’s bout with Gustafsson. Who do you think will walk out as the champion once Jon Jones makes his comeback to the UFC? Will Cormier reign supreme or will Jones take back what he believes to be his?
